A pair of American League division leaders meet for the beginning of a three-game set, with the Detroit Tigers hosting the Houston Astros at Comerica Park on Monday, August 18.

My top Astros vs. Tigers predictions and MLB picks are calling for plenty of offense in the series opener, with Detroit outfielder Riley Greene doing his part in sending the total Over the number tonight.

Astros vs Tigers same-game parlay (SGP)

Jack Flaherty 5+ strikeouts

Astros vs Tigers prediction

Astros vs Tigers best bet: Riley Greene Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI (-110)

Astros vs Tigers best bet analysis

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene continues to put up impressive numbers and has cleared this total in five of his past eight games while going 7-for-30 at the dish with fours runs, six RBI, and a respectable .867 OPS.

He’s cashed in on the platoon advantage with a solid .385 wOBA, .295 ISO and .914 OPS against right-handed pitchers for the campaign.

This is also a solid matchup with Houston Astros righty Spencer Arrighetti struggling since returning from a thumb injury that cost him roughly three months of action.

Arrighetti has allowed seven earned runs across his 8 2/3 innings across his two starts, and he wasn’t particularly sharp last year as a rookie with a 4.53 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and 4.01 xFIP.

Astros vs Tigers same-game parlay analysis

The return to Houston has been a boon for Carlos Correa. He’s gone 19-for-56 while picking up eight runs and eight RBI to clear this total in 10 of 14 games. Correa has also been solid against righties with a .370 wOBA and .838 OPS.

Just like Arrighetti, Detroit starter Jack Flaherty hasn’t been razor sharp of late, either. Flaherty has surrendered 11 runs — 10 earned — across nine innings his past two starts. He’s up to an underwhelming 4.76 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 3.70 xFIP for the campaign, too.

Additionally, both the Astros and Tigers have trended to the Over. The Astros have hit the Over in 22 of their last 38 games (+7.80 Units / 19% ROI), and the Tigers have played to the Over in 21 of their last 31 games at home (+12.15 Units / 35% ROI).

While I’m expecting Flaherty to have a few hiccups managing the Houston lineup, I do expect the veteran to pad the strikeouts column. He’s fanned six or more batters in eight of his past nine starts for a high-end 11.65 K/9 and 29.4 K%, after all.
