A's vs Rangers prediction

My A's vs Rangers best bet: A's first five moneyline (-105 at Caesars)

The Athletics’ young lefty, Jacob Lopez, has shown real flashes this season.

He enters this game — and the second half of the season — as a pitcher I’ll be looking to back. A key reason for this is his expected ERA, which is a full run lower than his actual ERA, indicating strong positive regression is likely. I think that begins tonight.

The underlying numbers are impressive. Lopez ranks in the 80th percentile for barrel rate and the 90th percentile for hard-hit rate. On top of that, his strikeout metrics are strong, and I expect him to lean into that skill set here.

The Texas Rangers enter this matchup ranked third in chase rate and Top 5 in whiff rate — and they see an increase in strikeout rate when facing lefties.

On the other side, I think the A’s are in a good position to take advantage of Rangers righty Jack Leiter. In direct contrast to Lopez, Leiter is a pitcher I’m looking to fade down the stretch.

His expected metrics point to negative regression, and his barrel rate — in the Bottom 10% of the league — could spell trouble against an underrated A’s lineup with power.

Caesars QuickPick: Our A's vs Rangers same-game parlay (SGP)

A's first five +0.5

Tyler Soderstrom home run

Tyler Soderstrom already has one homer in his head-to-head matchups with Jack Leiter, and it makes sense why.

Soderstrom is a tremendous fastball hitter, leading the A's in hard-hit rate against such pitches, and Leiter leans heavily on that pitch. In addition, poor barrel metrics from Leiter, with Soderstrom increasing his barrel rate significantly, suggest this could be a great spot.
