The New York Mets will look to continue their strong play at Citi Field as they host the Los Angeles Angels to open their series tonight.

Kodai Senga has been outstanding when healthy this year, and I’m taking him and New York to cover the run line in my Angels vs. Mets predictions.

Let’s take a closer look at tonight’s matchup in my free MLB picks for Monday, July 21.

Angels vs Mets prediction

My Angels vs Mets best bet: Mets -1.5 (ODDS at Caesars)

The New York Mets got Kodai Senga back just before the All-Star break after he missed a month due to a hamstring strain. He immediately showed why New York needed him back so badly, throwing four shutout innings against the Kansas City Royals on July 11.

That was the latest excellent outing in a great — although injury-plagued — season for Senga. The 32-year-old is 7-3 with a 1.39 ERA in 14 starts, keeping opponents off base with a 1.13 WHIP, and an opposing .604 OPS.

The Los Angeles Angels will counter with veteran lefty Tyler Anderson, who is 2-6 with a 4.34 ERA. Anderson has been more than serviceable for Los Angeles, but he's vulnerable to the longball, having allowed 17 homers in 101 2/3 innings of work — a dangerous issue against a Mets lineup with plenty of power up top.

New York has been dominant at home, boasting a 34-16 record, and they've also had great success with Senga on the mound, winning his last five starts — four of them by at least two runs.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Angels vs Mets same-game parlay (SGP)

Mets -1.5

Under 8.5

Kodai Senga Over 5.5 strikeouts

I’m expecting Senga to come out strong for the Mets, which makes it easy to pick a couple more legs for my SGP. Let’s take the Under at 8.5 runs, as the Angels should have trouble scoring and the Mets' offense hasn’t been lighting the world on fire, either.

I’m also taking Senga to collect Over 5.5 strikeouts as he lengthens out in his return from injury.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
