Polymarket traders can now buy and sell contracts predicting how the price of Bitcoin will change in prescribed 15-minute intervals on its U.S. app.

The new prediction market builds on the existing five-minute markets, which were unveiled in February.

Key Takeaways
  • There is no requirement for how much a coin must increase or decrease for traders to win or lose their contracts, so long as there is a price change.
  • Polymarket U.S. has 15-minute markets for Bitcoin, has self-certified price contracts for Ether, Solana.
  • Traders can also access Bitcoin perps or other prediction markets, such as whether the coin will reach a given price before 2027.

Polymarket customers will have their positions graded as winners or losers depending on if the price of the cryptocurrency increases or decreases from its previous 15-minute mark.

Here’s an example of how these prediction markets work: The 7:45-8:00 a.m. interval began with Bitcoin being priced at $84,209.48 and finished with a $84,344.37 value. That means that anyone who predicted the price would increase won.

Traders do not have to be correct or incorrect by a certain margin to win or lose. If the price is up just one cent, shareholders who predicted an increase will receive full payouts.

Polymarket diversifies crypto markets

Settlement in quick-fire crypto markets relies on automated data from Chainlink Data Streams, a February Polymarket announcement confirming the launch of five-minute Bitcoin markets said.

Condensing trading windows provides users with more of a real-time experience. It also allows them to immediately respond to real-time updates, whether they be major events, policy changes, tech announcements, or anything else that could affect the price of Bitcoin.

Additionally, these timed markets allow users to engage with Bitcoin outside of the confines of “perps,” or perpetual futures. These are undated markets that allow consumers to leverage contracts related to price changes without a fixed time or closing date.

Polymarket also has additional Bitcoin prediction markets. Current market data suggests there is a 64% chance that the price of the commodity reaches $85,000 in September, and a 70% chance that the price reaches $90,000 in 2026. At the time of writing, $88 million has been traded in these two markets.
