Key Takeaways
  • FanDuel’s digital rips trial is currently available only through its rewards program.
  • Flutter CEO Dan Taylor said the company’s initial trials of the product have gone well.
  • FanDuel declined to comment on the partnership.

FanDuel Rewards Club members can earn access to digital card rips through Arena Club, the collectibles platform co-founded by Derek Jeter.

“We’ve been tracking the rips product very closely,” Dan Taylor, CEO of parent company Flutter, told Devor. “We’ve done some trials already, and those trials have gone very well.”

Arena Club allows collectors to own, grade, sell, and trade physical sports and Pokemon cards through an online platform. FanDuel declined to comment on the partnership, but Taylor said digital rips meet customers’ appetite for “risk-taking.”

Digital rips gain ground

FanDuel is the largest U.S. sports betting brand to test a digital rips offering, but several other companies have already entered the space.

Fanatics, which operates a sportsbook along with its memorabilia and collectible business, offers a digital card-ripping product called Instant Rips. The operator has also brought the concept to its sportsbook through FanCash Packs, which lets customers open packs for a chance to win memorabilia and bonuses.

Fantasy sports and prediction market operators PrizePicks and Underdog have also introduced card rip products. PrizePicks users have pulled several sports cards worth millions of dollars.
