Coinbase is preparing to let its users “rip” Pokémon card packs, according to a teaser shared Monday.

“Rip packs on your phone,” Coinbase wrote on X. “Soon on Coinbase.”
Coinbase did not reveal when Pokémon card ripping will be available, but the teaser indicates users can open packs on their phones before storing them in a digital vault or having them shipped to their homes.
Five card packs were shown in the announcement: a blue “01,” a silver “02,” a bronze “03,” a gold “04,” and a black “05.” The distinct designs may represent different tiers, although Coinbase did not confirm that.
Coinbase bringing Pokémon to the blockchain?
Coinbase is far from the first online platform to offer collector packs. Card rip sites have grown in popularity in recent years, with the global ripping market worth an estimated $50 billion.
Coinbase’s new feature appears similar to GameStop’s Power Packs, which let users open digital packs containing physical trading cards that can be vaulted or shipped to customers.
The key difference between Coinbase and other pack outlets is the built-in crypto infrastructure. The announcement did not explain how the integration will work, but Coinbase replied, “You get it,” when one X user mentioned ripping packs “on the chain.”
Coinbase also hinted that “there's more” coming to the platform that it has not yet revealed.
The announcement comes as Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration hits the market. The 199-card set includes 128 main-set cards, 33 Secret Rares, 30 Classic Collection cards and eight Basic Energy cards. It commemorates the franchise’s 30th anniversary.
The set also introduces a new Futuristic Rare tier, while each booster pack contains five foil cards and one foil Basic Energy card.
