What is the format for The Match: Champions for Charity?

With Tiger vs Phil odds heating up, just exactly how will The Match: Champions for Charity be contested? Well, first off, it's an 18-hole match-play event. The first nine holes will be a fourball competition. That means each player will play their own ball and the player with the lowest score for a team on a given hole will post the score for that team. Example: Tiger scores a four on a hole and Manning scores a five, the Tiger/Manning team scores a four. Additionally, the Brady and Manning will be given three handicap strokes on the front nine. One on a par 3, a par 4 and a par 5 which will be identified by The Match committee.

The Match will also feature a one-club challenge on the fifth hole. Which is exactly what it sounds like. Players will only be able to use one club to reach the green.

Holes 10-18 will be a modified alternate shot competition. Each player will tee off and one ball will be chosen be in-play per team and strokes will then be played on alternating basis until the hole is decided.

Additionally, if the match is tied after 18 holes play will be extended. It will be played on a short 100-125 yard hole approaching the 18th green and will continue as a modified alternate shot until a winner is determined.

How to bet on golf

The most popular way to bet on golf is by simply picking the winner, which is also referred to as an outright. There are plenty of other ways to wager, however. Some of the more popular markets include head-to-head betting, where sportsbooks pair up two golfers and you simply choose who you think will have the lower score over the course of the weekend or for one round only. Similarly, there are also 3-way betting markets (choose the best golfer among three choices) and group betting (choose the best golfer amongst a group of players).

Other ways to wager include Top 5/Top 10/Top 20 finish, top golfer by nationality, to make the cut/to not make the cut, and the leader after each round. Then, of course, there's the popular prop bet of whether or not there will be a hole in one at the tournament.
