The DP World Tour playoffs begin this week with a top-heavy field headlined by Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, and Tyrrell Hatton hitting Yas Links this week for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
My top golf picks are headlined by Hatton and Irishman Shane Lowry looking to climb the standings ahead of the DP World Tour Championship next week.
Golf picks for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship 2025
- Hatton to win outright (+900)
- Lowry to win outright (+2800)
- Lawrence Top 20 (+165)
- Lindell Top 20 (+210)
- McIlroy Round 1 score Under 68.5 (-110)
Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship outright picks
Outright pick: Tyrrell Hatton
+900 at Fanatics
This will be the fourth trip to Yas Links for Tyrrell Hatton, and he carded a sizzling T6-T7-2nd run. Just as impressive, the Englishman has also gained true strokes off the tee, on approach, and putting in each of those events.
I’m anticipating him taking a serious run at winning after posting consecutive Top 5s on the DP World Tour to climb to third in the circuit’s 2025 Race to Dubai Standings.
Outright pick: Shane Lowry
+2800 at Fanatics
The Irishman is coming off a solid T3 finish in the DP World India Championship with true strokes gained across the board, and he’s also played the weekend in this event while gaining true strokes on approach in three consecutive seasons since the tournament relocated to Yas Links.
I particularly value Shane Lowry ranking 11th in this field in true strokes gained tee-to-green and fifth on approach across his past six events because if the putter heats up, he’ll be in contention again.
Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship prop picks
Finishing position pick: Thriston Lawrence Top 20
+160 at Fanatics
This is an attractive number for a three-time DP World Tour winner, whose latest victory was in the Omega European Masters in late August. Of course, Thriston Lawrence also finished T6 in this event last year while gaining true strokes across the board.
Additionally, while there’s little tournament-to-tournament consistency in Lawrence’s finishes, he has the game to contend when firing on all cylinders. He finished T3 in a similar field at the DP World India Championship just two weeks ago, too.
Finishing position pick: Oliver Lindell Top 20
+210 at Fanatics
It’s been a sneaky run for the Finn.
Oliver Lindell has played the weekend in seven consecutive events while ranking 12th in true strokes gained tee-to-green and third in true strokes gained on approach. Add gaining true strokes putting to also carding a trio of Top 10s, and he’s headed to his Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship debut in impressive form.
Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship first-round pick
Round 1 pick: Rory McIlroy Under 68.5
-110 at Fanatics
This will be the third trip to Yas Links for Rory McIlroy, and he’s carded 68 or lower in four of his past six rounds at the track. Additionally, the two outliers were under-par scores of 69.
The Irishman heads to this year’s edition in excellent form with a recent September win in the Irish Open, and he also ranks fifth in this field in true strokes gained tee-to-green and fourth in putting across his past nine tournaments.
Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship odds
- Rory McIlroy: +550
- Tommy Fleetwood: +600
- Tyrrell Hatton: +900
- Ludvig Aberg: +1100
- Robert MacIntyre: +1400
- Matt Fitzpatrick: +1800
