Your model's intracacies are irrelevant, simpler the better. The point is having one, back-testing it, then sticking to it through thick or thin.  Also, 'some' officials in the NBA are shady to say the least, point-shaving is not as uncommon as Vegas would like you to believe. I like total points better than ats/ml in NBA simply for that reason alone.  those deltas someone mentioned regarding ats, that's way too much variance to even attempt to smooth out.

This is funny, because MK too says the same - the only difference between you and him is that he is up more than 208 units since he started his site on may 2011 and your record is unknown. Also, he never had a losing month and never even less than 1000$ winning month. I love all this guys who never checked the man out and already have assumptions about what he does and how he does it.

I was here when MK started his site and ran the picks simultaneously. It was during the NBA playoffs and he went like 12 consecutive picks. Then slowly he drifted away to his site only. Me and my student friends have been tailing him since and we;re happy we did. Many had little faith and not once instead of thanking the guy and out of jealosy lashed at him and he returned the fire back. I loved that. Al of who remember that are welcome  to comment on what I say. Now he rarely comes here and is all within his site. He is honest and decent - and very talented capper.

This thread is not about MK or his site. I am not interested in people speaking out for me in any form. Please! If you like my site - go there and comment there. This thread is all about 1. Is it possible to turn Sports Betting into a steady source of income? 2. If yes, in what ways?.
    Leave me out of it!!!
14allall41, I again compliment you on your thread and if you had the sense to touch such important sunject - please carry on ands manage it for the benefit of everyone without turning it into a cult. I do not appreciate making me the main subject here as it does not give any creditibility to the subject it is supposed to be about.

I think that betting parts of the game rather than the whole ones can be profitable.

no big assumptions other than touts who use handles CAN NOT be pros, by definition.  maybe someone like VR is an exception b/c everyone can see him in game preview videos, and Marco's Marco, get it ?  Good luck.

Something about Vegas' Behavioral Sciences I'd like to share:
2day ago there were 3 games that the lines were what we cal a classic "trap lines".
1.Atlanta opening line at home against Memphis was -4.5 and an early money  on Memphis drove it to -4 ans public joe moved it to -5.5. Of course he did - waking up and seing Atlanata at home against Memphis who was blown out at every place - seemed like a gift. I wrote to stay away since it is hard to put money on Undrdog because he might not cover because of an ability regardless of an "early money" and all the help from environment. - We all saw how Grizzlies destroyed Atlanta.
    2. NY Knicks opened at +3.5 againsat Chicago - an unbelievably low handicap nad there too an"early money moved it to +3 and public joe got it back to Bulls -4 and later to -4.5. We all saw how it has ended exactly in 3 point difference,
3.Same story was with Portland in Sacramento. Same sequences and the same outcome.
I warned against all those games at my site and tipped on Portland totals only which has won.
Those are Thursdays fro you which I call "Expect the Unexpected Thursdays.

So, my dear colleagues - i came up with few options that I would love to hear your opinion about it:

Simple answer......only bet OVER/UNDER's.  Trust me, you will make more money than any other option.  Forget about picking sides or props.  O/U is the shit!

    1. Capping by myself - well, need a lots of time researching and I had my ups and downs -but can not really say I made some money from it, because, even if I gained some - i lacked the discipline to manage the money right.

    2. Tailing the leaders from a Streak Survivor and other league contests - I made some excel files entering daily the results and soon found out that the Hot tipsters tend to get cold as soon as they reach the top and go and search and guess who gonna hit the top while they are still at the bottom.

3.Tailing some leading cappers on sports forums - it is a better option than the previous two, but also does noy always guarantee the profitable month as I can not point out 1 best tipster and only follow him as not everybody posts on a daily bases and they too tend to get hot and cold in extreme measures (I still managed to gain some money tailing few of them like 44dimes on WNBA, smartbets, LVTruck, samdude3, mkbini, and some more that I cant remember to mention). Still, need to manage the funds right.

    4. Tailing some tout and pay money for it - I paid almost anyone on market and yet have to find one honest tout that does not fake his records and truly is committed.

    5. Tailing some sites that give out free picks and commit myself from the beginning of the month to the end and have no head aches - just take the picks and gain monthly - could not find any yet.

So, what do you think guys?

I'm incredibly grateful that any of you gifted and/or hardworking cappers commit the expense of energy to post these picks.

I'm betting $0.50 to $2.00 at 5Dimes on reduced juice... this was for enjoyment (or perhaps more accurately for a "distraction" for some portion of the day)

    Thank you,smartbets .

    @14allall41

The late Blackjack Guru, Ken Uston pointed out that if one enjoyed an edge of 0.1% (.001) then he would need 900 units of bankroll at a 5% element-of-ruin.

If you open an account at 5Dimes, you can bet as little as $0.50 per wager and enjoy -105 reduced juice up to bets of $250.

5Dimes will credit you for the Western Union fee and if you withdraw on a certain day of the week, you will pay no withdrawal fee.

More than one of the more objective  Sportbook Rating Guides gives 5Dimes an A+ for safety.

So with $250 you have 500 units of bankroll at $0.50 per unit.

There would not be an insignificant subset of members here who would say you should bet "scared money" aka "money you cannot afford to lose".. $250 bankroll and $0.50 bets fall into that category

BigJeezy70 quite possibly could be correct about betting "O/U Totals " AS EVIDENCED BY 5 Dimes only allowing -110 wagering on College Totals (meaning that it can be profitable for the astute bettor)

...but let's look at the "break even" point at -105... it is a little bit more than 51.2% winners (105/205)

@ 0.1% edge you can bet 86 games that all go off at once (simultaneous bets) which necessitates an increas of bankroll size of less than 20% (1.20).

What I am saying is that here at Covers you have the "perfect laboratory" no further from you than your laptop keyboard...

...and some fairly entertaining personalities who are both good cappers and kind enough to help the less-capable subset of the readership.

This is where you can TEST THINGS OUT.... 500 units would mean you would need a 0.2% edge per wager

That would mean that the Covers Capper(s) you would tail would only need to be a little less than 51.4% proficient for you to never look back and worry about tapping out.

Old Chum, there are plenty of cappers here who are much better than 51.4% proficient.

Pick 5 or 6 to follow... don't know which 5 or 6 to follow, just askkk! Just as there are good people helping the balance of us out with winning picks there are equally good people who will gladly give credit where credit is due.

...and "necessity" just may be the "mother of invention". You may need these people and a low-juice sportsbook to survive..play your cards correctly (safely) and you could enjoy a return of 41% per year

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our pensions are getting stolen. LTV Steel workers in Cleveland only got 30% of their pensions. San Diego had $1,300,000,000 stolen and only recovered less than $300 million. Memphis public workers were in trouble also.

The ...cough.. "fees" they charge are nothing more than "bribes".... The Inspectors General of the US Department of Labor issued 20 straight warnings for 20 straight years since 1989 that 70% of these pension funds had never been audited...

...and they're being bled dry... during the most recent toxic asset meltdown they talked about how pension funds were the next big crisis looming on the horizon which would DWARF what we all just went through.

...they charge fees based on the outdated idea that these funds will grow at 8% per year (T-Bills dont pay 10% per annum anymore... they pay around 2%) ...so these pension funds invest in risky ventures("hedge funds"/"private equity")...

..and yet Congress hasn't done a darn thing...and they won't... they never will... your politicians have been bought & paid for....

...oh, they'll shut down poker rooms and scare the living b'jeebers out of the good folks at BetJamaica, Pinnacle & CANBET into not accepting US players...but this is theft....

...and when a father can't feed his child, he'll take any job and meekly accept what they offer him under any working conditions they desire.

The late Comedian, George Carlin spoke of this theft right here:

Here's your strategy then, old sport.... get yourself chunks of $250 plus enough for the Western Union fee so that 5 Dimes absorbs it.

Keep your bankroll at 500 units no matter what (There is a mathematically sound betting principle known as "The Kelly Criterion" which shows that underbetting your edge shows the same profitability as overbetting with reduced risk)

Make your bets here everyday from the cappers you choose to follow and watch your bankroll grow slowly and safely. Use $250 that you earn at your place of employment that you can afford and add it to your 5Dimes account... Now you have 500 units of $1.00 each.

Your bankroll increases two ways... by safely winning BUT MAINLY by your added contributions.... and what you are hoping then is to EVENTUALLY  get 500 units with each unit being $250 for the -105 juice...

...but your bankroll is going to grow faster than that because even though your safely betting to a Kelly edge of 0.2%, the fact that these capable covers cappers are hitting at a much higher rate(proficiency) than 51.4% means that the increased proficiency acts as an accelerant.

You'll never be betting "scared money"... you'll enjoy the heck out of visiting this COVERS site.... every week or so, thank one of the 5 or 6 cappers you choose to follow
    ...
....and when someone asks you THEN what you yourself are asking now... then you too will have the opportunity to show what a great community of people that individual has landed in.

You can fire your retro rockets right now to slow down your descent, allall... you've landed at the right place

Treat OKC game in Gloden State with extra caution on ATS. The line opened OKC -3.5, and after an early money was poured on OKC - the line moved to.... -2.5. RLM? The problem with that is the previous game on 27th of January won by OKC 120-109 in GS,- the line was OKC -4.5, so after that game under the same circumstances the line should have opened OKC -6.5 at the least. So, I haven't decided yet if Vegas is telling us something and winking in process or they're trying to double-do us by winking to somebody else.

Its good to take other people's opinions into consideration especially if they are good cappers however I feel its best to form your own opinions through research and observation. Stay patient with the size of your units and trust your gut.
