Penko claims she had a heat stroke and normally I'd call BS when she says something like that but it seemed like just about every player I watched last night was on the verge of having one too.
I know Cincy was sweltering but this seems even worse, maybe much worse. Humidity literally suffocating some of these gals. Even Navarro couldn't handle it with her hair all matted to her head as she lost 6 games in a row to end the match.
One thing I noticed was that the really 'fit' players like Navarro and Kostyuk seemed to struggle more than some others. Probably because their game is predicated on hustle and running a marathon around the court which caused the exhaustion to set in faster. This seemed to happen to Zakharova at the end of her match as well. Kenin literally never hustles to get to a ball which could be a hidden advantage in these conditions.
Multiple players also resorted to crying periodically throughout the match but none moreso than Mirra who seemed to turn the faucets on after nearly every point she lost.
