The Anisimova situation is interesting to me.

I'm not fully convinced that she will actually play (could end up being a Krueger Kessler rematch). She may play though, and it is technically a mandatory tournament for her, but she could also likely request a waiver from the WTA since she has a documented injury history and is coming right off that title run.

If she does play, it's hard to find an angle where this a tournament that she is highly motivated for, especially with the sunshine double right around the corner. No way she has some grand plan of winning back to back 1000s in consecutive weeks and even attempting to make a deep run seems unlikely to me. And the way the ranking points system is setup puts an emphasis on a players best results at 7 of the 8 WTA/ATP combined 1000 tournaments and for the non-combined events like these the most important thing is your 1 best performance of the 3 or 4 you play in. Anisimova already has her best performance obviously.

There is sharp action on Kessler. I just have a bad taste in my mouth from watching her lose to Krueger. Then she got destroyed by Ons but I didn't watch that. Honestly I think that Anisimova is a terrible matchup for Kessler on paper but I also doubt we'd see the same version of Amanda that we saw yesterday.

Obviously I've been thinking a lot about Kessler. No opinion on Ostapenko.

 I really like Lys. And probably nine days out of ten I would bet her game spread in this match. This is a loaded day and there are other matches I like too but I had to narrow things down to only my top plays.
