The LA Lakers prove that they can be competitive on the road winning their first road game since 2004-2005 without Lakers F Lamar Odom in the lineup.  The LA Lakers' bench and role players (who everyone thinks shouldnt even be in the league) carried the Lakers' for the 2nd consecutive game and was able to finally break through and get the victory.
 
Lakers are now 5-20 SU and 9-15-1 ATS in games Lamar Odom does not start with an 20-5 O-U record.

- Lakers coming into New Jersey tonight off of a much needed win on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves.  The Nets have won 2 straight headed into this matchup and now go against one of the Western Conference's best records.
 
The Lakers starting backcourt of Smush Parker and Kobe Bryant are one of the worst defensive tandems in the NBA and will have trouble keeping up with Jason Kidd and Vince Carter all night.  The Nets frontcourt post duo of Jason Collins and Nenad Kristic are one of the worst defensive tandems in the NBA and will have trouble keeping Lakers' post Kwame Brown, Luke Walton and Andrew Bynum off the glass.
 
Phil Jackson holds the key to the outcome of this game.  If Phil Jackson coaches a normal game the Lakers will not cover.  If Phil Jackson plays his better players down the stretch (Like he did in 4th qt againt Minnesota) the Lakers can win outright. I'm not banking on the latter happening so I have to roll with -

I hate to tell you but the Lakers are better than both you and I thought.  With or without Odom they're playing decent basketball.

Analysis was right but as we all know that does not positively correlate into a win in the world of gambling.
 
VC and Jason Kidd torched Bryant and Parker for a combined 49 pts 10 rebs 10 ast with 1 TO (contrary to someone saying their D was all NBA level)
 
Conversly the Nets get killed on the boards and give up 14-20 shooting to the Lakers posts.
 
Lakers now 3-3 SU this year without Odom  and 6-20 overall without him in the lineup.

I hate to tell you but the team isnt any worse than I said they'd be at the beginning of the year.  People love to come in and give their opinion which is fine but I've always maintained the following arguments about the Lakers (who are actually my 2nd favorite NBA team)
 
1) The team is not good defensively
 
2) The team actually has REAL NBA talent.
 
3) The team is held back by Bryant's poor play.
 
There is a reason why they are playing good basketball right now.  You're a basketball man... I invite you to tell the fanboys and no knowledge phonies why.

The Lakers are laying -10 to Philadelphia tomorrow which IMO isnt too smart for bettors to take.
 
How often do .400 teams (Because thats what the Lakers are without Odom in the lineup) lay double digits to a team that is on the rise?
 
I'll be taking a long look at the Philadelphia ML tomorrow as they have all the weapons on offense to take it to the Lakers.  The Lakers perimeter defense is horrid and the team chemistry is starting to revert back to how it was pre Phil Jackson.

It's not over yet! With Lamar Odom out for an indefinite amount of time with a torn labrum, the team will embark on a journey to hold their seeding for the playoffs in the final month and a half of the season.
 
Similar to 2004-2005, without a healthy Odom, the team tanked the end of the season.  Will it happen this year? Chances are it probably will.
