3/6/13 THE TRUE STORY BEHIND THE THEORY

It has for me lately.  I've got to go back and do some research, but I've played all dogs of 3/3.5, 6/6.5, 13/13.5 and it seems to be working.  But again, I only look at the opening line. 

Jonhhy, you're right.  lol  But the study was based on the NBA, not CBB.  I've found that it works for all dogs in both NBA and CBB though.

I'm going with Winthrop +3.5 at home vs Davidson.

NBA Road Dogs is the theory, but it is working for the NCAA but not tested

I don't recall seeing it on Vegasinsider.com.  I only remember it being posted here.  And it's just a write-up abou how to play the system, not the history behind it.

"It works best for road dogs in the NBA, but has done well for many here in college hoops as well ... In 1998 a graduate student at MIT university did a thesis on mathematical equastions, why certain numbers 'pop up' more than others; that type of criteria, and for what ever reason, he went into the NBA pointspread stats of the Las Vegas books for every game played from 1968 to 1998, including the playoffs, roughly, 3000 pointspreads(NBA only) and found the 'road dog' getting 3/6/13 covered the spread at a 72% rate over ALL other # involved.. Andy Isakoe, a well known LV handicapper, took it a step farther, and did the NBA from 1999 to 2007 season, based on previous research, his figure rose to 76% for that time frame.... I went to gamingday.com and couldn't really find much about it there.

And yes, both UMass and S. Ala were 6 point dogs and both won outright!!

OK--will ask a stupid question.

Does the number have to be exactly 3,6, 13, or can it be 3.5, 6.5, or 13.5?

 

As I stated earlier, I play both the 3,6, 13 and 3.5, 6.5, and 13.5.  But, I've found that most of the time, the opening line doesn't have the hook on it.  Also stonepilot, IMO, there's no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid answers!!!

 

This theory has been stable!!!

 

i hope it works.  it has to be the opening line only.  doesnt different sportsbooks have different opening lines or does one book has the openning line and other books follow?

Last night the sonics opened up at +6 and got bet up to +9 (public pounding portland after they spanked the celtics).  Packersbackers has said that he thinks the REASON behind the success of the theory is that these are catch-all numbers that vegas uses when they're not sure how to set the line.... that's why these numbers are so fallible versus the actual outcomes... you ever notice how some games "happen" to fall right on the number and some are way off?

 

BTW, sonics covered the original +6, the extra 3 were gravy.

The +3/6/13 road dog Theory by" Andy Iskoe" ( the MIT REPORT ) was told to me by an old time capper, and if the line opens @+3 +6 or +13 for the visiting team and REMAINS at the number (in the NBA)...its a play. Since then i've heard dozens of varations .In my personal experiances i play it on the opening line(reguardless of movement) and have had some success. I also use it in NCAA. and as SEAOTTER stated, it hit last night with S bama and Umass. But like any system play, it has its flaws. i've never crunched the numbers, but i would Guess it probably is close to 65 to 70 %.(IF the number stays the same which is rare !!!) Hope this helps ...BOL to all

Good stuff.  I've caught mention of this  before and it seems like people have applied it to home dogs as well with decent outcome.

Chris...i dont know if i would venture into playing this system on home teams, being that the system is called" ROAD" dog theory.

But you never know ...lol
