What another outstanding day yesterday.  I cleaned up personally on Colombia, couldn't have pushed more for that game within the forum, and then with Argentina showing up as I thought they would in the FH yesterday.  Of course, the penalty got us over the hump but they had like 80% possession in the FH and while they put it on cruise control after, our little friend named "Messi" made a showing to guarantee we got the OVER 1.5 TT.

Bear in mind I am keeping the anytime goalscorer losses (or wins) in the record but I personally play MUCH MUCH less on them.  And those bigger plays, of which I think I am totally flat on, I play MUCH MUCH more on.  They all count as BIG PLAYS so just manage your own bankroll and finances but bear this in mind as the tournament keeps on rolling.

I've added the futures to the record too since that was in its own thread.  I had a great read on this tournament and intend to throughout.  I think the first couple of days some lowlife came in here and made a comment that I would be "done before the 1st round ends".  Again, not sure the point of a comment like that especially if you have followed me over the years but it stuck with me for weeks.  Well, the first round has ended and here I still am.

Of note, todays games start the knockout stages during which a draw/tie, will be recorded as such after the full game, but the teams will then play in to extra time, or penalties, to decide a winner.  That is important to also note because there is a bet TO ADVANCE which is pretty much a way of taking out the 90 minutes only and predicting the outright winner.  So, in some cases, that WILL be the play.  But not today...

I know that the platform is going to cut me off in a few so I will create another post where I will provide the play and the write-up, which I already know.  Hoping everyone is having a great start to their Sunday.

There is one game today and I really like this play.  The angle I am taking is one that in my opinion offers value but it also is juiced a bit higher than most.  That's really the issue with wagering on this game, finding really solid spots and not having to overpay for it.

Let's start with Canada, they are NOT at home and are playing in Los Angeles that will be a neutral field for them, don't kid yourselves.  They are a host country so they will have more of the supporters but this is not like playing in Vancouver or Toronto, that's for sure.  They have only won a World Cup game ONCE, earlier this month when they beat Bosnia (who the USA will pummel), and seem to always play low scoring games, having gone under 2.5 goals in 10 of their last 13.

South Africa on the other hand is elated to be here, only having done so after beating South Korea 1-0 on matchday 3.  In fact, I'm surprised they are even at this stage but that's not a bad thing.  They began the tournament against the host country on their on home soil in Mexico City in the very first match played for this tournament.  So they had a jacked up crowd against them, frenzied Mexican players, and then two red cards they were dealt.  Still, they only lost 2-0 and one of those goals was scored extremely early on.

The next match SA played, they had to deal with not having two starters from the red cards and were still able to tie the Czechs 1-1, a game which we handsomely cashed on.  Then they went on to beat South Korea 1-0.  They too tend to play lower scoring games as their last seven games produced under 2.5 goals.

SOUTH AFRICA +1 (-160)...BIG PLAY!!!:  Bafana Bafana are better than people think, not great, but better.  They have played in a hostile crowd that was against them in Mexico City and, even if they don't have the home fans today, Canada will not be playing on home grounds.  If the game is close, which I expect it will be, the crowd will start to side with the South Africans and I think that will also lift them.  I'm not quite sure why Canada is so highly favored, they weren't even in some matches where they played at home, but I think given how low scoring games both teams play, the fact that South Africa has scored in 2/3 group games and were short in the game that they had two guys sent off, this is an extremely strong play.  Even if this goes extra time, we win.  Let me see Canada beat a team by 2 in the World Cup.

YES BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE (CANADA/SOUTH AFRICA) +110:. Also worth noting that S. Africa gave up goals to 2/3 teams in the group stage, with South Korea being the only one who couldn't net one.  I think Canada has enough in attack to get one in the back of the net and S. Africa as stated above have shown the same.

That will be it for today, hoping that you guys feel similarly.  The Canada line has dropped quite a bit, not sure if lineups were announced while I was typing and guys are missing, but I'm all on board for the South Africans.  As always, tail or fade, good luck to all..

That's not wagerable (just made that word up).  But gives me confidence in having played it at -160.

Both teams will also score, might bump that will wait to see lineups but not sure it matters b/c I expect a tight game but neither goalie is shut down.

I'll also keep monitoring to see if there are any other plays that carry value.

@barneybeans Crazy thing about England is they still won their group so where they are placed is where they would have wanted to be. The fact they are getting DR Congo could be the worst for them b/c that's exactly the type of squad they would be overconfident against and take lightly

I think for those of you who can't get the +1, you need to switch books. He is stating what he is playing. Not sure if he's got opinions on the +0.75, etc.

Well the +.5 clearly doesn't help if Canada win by one goal.  But...far cheaper for a game that might not get over 2.5 goals from what the trends have shown.  

I'm not sure about the .5, I truly think Canada is being a bit more weighted for just being in North America but they don't usually do well in the United Sates though as we can all imagine they only end up squaring off against the United States while here.

Taking all of that into consideration, I think they will play a tight game.  And Canada has one but ONE game EVER at the WC.  So there are a lot of factors but when you try to balance them all I got to the -1.  But there is certainly value in the +.5 and I'm starting to think not all of the host nations will progress far, so could be the spot where one of them bows out entirely 

Also as a point of reference neither team tends to come out in the first half with much juice.  The FH under .5 goals is very attractive at +143.  The draw is fairly priced but tough to back that given this referee loves to call fouls and hand out cards and South Africa is not very disciplined.

I'm going to stay with the two plays above for today and see how things play out.  Tomorrow I will definitely take a loss in my futures as I have both Japan and Brazil progressing past this round.  Just don't see how Brazil will lose as tidy and as much as I like Japan.

But for now, it's almost game time and this will be a really great hard-fought encounter to start the knockouts.

Your South Africa bet looks strong. This game may finish 0-0. These two teams have one big thing in common. They both stink. The Netherlands and Morocco are salivating. Whoever wins that game tomorrow has a bye into the quarterfinals.

Canada definitely should have one on the board, amazing save by goalie and defender. S. Africa had some opportunities to break but very sloppy when chances presented themselves......
