YTD (SOCCER): 0-3
Not the start to the season that I would've expected nor wanted, but with the leagues all starting now, I see tremendous opportunities for today and throughout the weekend. I did have a little trepidation the other day with PSG given they had been on a three week layoff and that showed in the first half which I had backed and subsequently lost. Such will not be the case today.
Liverpool kicks off their season at home where they haven't lost a home opener in over a decade against the team they have beat by more than one goal in six of the seven times they've played at Anfield. Moreover, Liverpool will be celebrating and memorializing Diogo Jota, who died in a horrible car crash a few months ago. So, if a home opener wasn't enough motivation, they will have the emotional lift as well.
But it's not just about the supernatural that will help Liverpool smash Bournemouth, it's about the actual squad. Liverpool played over the past weekend and, for them, unfortunately lost to Crystal Palace in the community shield. Arne Slot has not lost two consecutive games at Liverpool and I think that game serves as a little bit of a wake up call ahead of the Premier league season. Bournemouth have arguably their two best players not available today in Kluivert and Chrisitie, the latter of whom tends to control the midfield. They also lost quite a few strong pieces to a squad that finished ninth in the Premier league last year signaling the best finish they've had. In fact, one of those players, Milos Kerkez, Will now be on the opposite side of the pitch as he suits up for Liverpool.
Liverpool's off-season has been completely different as they have raked perhaps three of the best players in the Bundesliga (Eketike, Wirtz, Frimpbong) and added them to the championship squad they had from last season. Mohammed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk are as steady as they come, and there was positive news for Joe Gomez potentially suiting up in their defense. Furthermore, Allison Becker is one of the best keepers in the league and will assume his position preventing Bournemouth from scoring. I guess anything is possible, but I just do not see Bournemouth putting up a strong challenge to Liverpool, especially given Liverpool had just played this past weekend and the stakes and emotions at Anfield.
LIVERPOOL FH (-141)....BIG PLAY!!!
LIVERPOLL -1.5 (-125)....HUGE PLAY!!!
I'm going to back Liverpool very strongly not because I am trying to catch up on units, but because they should handle the take down a burn the side they have owned over the years. Since this is the first game of the season, motivation will be high, and I do not think they will stop scoring as they know that might be one of the deciders at the end of the year. I'm not sure I'm gonna play any of the other games, but I will have some on tap for tomorrow. But it starts with this today and I feel very strongly about it. As always, tail or fade, good luck to all.
