What a win without there captain for the last 40, can't see the dogs getting over Souths nxt week especially if Ennis can't play, makes for a better grand final then if panthers had if got threw IMO

damn!!!!!!!!.....you serious???????...........i was thinking anywhere between 6 and 8...thats a bit outrageous.i love them to win,but thats a lot of points with all the marbles on the line.
dogs can match it with them in the bash game but souths have so much more strike out wide and in play-making roles in my view.both hookers cud be missing which makes it interesting...dont think i wud be laying 9,even tho souths are more than capable of running away with it if they fire.

Souths played there GF and last night. No one except GI and Lote has GF experience in that team.

Over 90% of our team has played in a GF

You have to play in one to lose one.

Will wait and see what happens withe the spread and all the ins and outs

One thing is certain though - if Ben Cummins is the ref, lay the points.

but who has more ability,rostos???..i dont discount the dogs chances totally, they will front big time and give the rabbits all they can handle, but just cant see them putting enuff points on the board versus that defense......im sure theres equally been ocassions where a team of predominantly green-horns has been successful on grand final day.
i thought that cud be a telling factor last nite with so many untested guys-johnston,keary,au'va'a,walker,turner all experiencing big time footy for pretty much the 1st time....but it didnt prove a problem at all.sum guys are just ready for the moment strait away.they are on such a high and so full of confidence i dont know how much their lack of proven mettle will matter...mite be too young and dumb to be scared??....we will see

Yo Emkee, congrats on your NRL finals run. I had most of your picks so I respect what you've done. Got an interesting little Q for you. I got on the Dogs to win the comp @ $41, in addition to a host of other bets. Total profit if dogs win the comp = $1,000.

Just out of interest, what would you, or other Covers members on this thread do to hedge that bet?

I'm tossing between the following: If I lay massive juice on Souths at $1.40 (say $650), I can lock up about $300 either way. Alternatively, I was thinking of just sprinkling a little bit of money on Sam B and Inglis to win Clive churchill. I know the logical answer is to just lock up the $300, but I just know Dogs will win this game :P

    Thoughts?

EVERYONE is acting as if Souths have already won. Everyone.

Souths used up an unbelievable amount of physical AND most importantly, emotional energy last week to make the GF.

IMO, the Roosters were shot ducks for the last 3/4 weeks of the comp. They simply ran out of steam.

Look, the bottom line is the completions...I don't give a f#ck...if Sharks complete over 90%, I don't care who they play they will win or go extremely close.

Everyone just thinks it is a given Souths will complete at a very high % like they did against the Roosters and Sea Eagles.

The Rabbits completed a very very high % in the first 65 minutes of there wins against the Eagles and Roosters, but when they dropped a bit of ball, they leaked points....

The Dogs also had high completions for the first halves against the Storm and Panthers......But when our completions faded in the 2nd half, we defended our line and only leaked 1 try in each game in the 2nd half, BOTH those tries in the 2nd halves were off kicks.

Against Manly, we conceded 2 tries in the 2nd half, and one of those was when Ennis fumbled the kick.

Our defensive line is very very strong.

Luke is a huge loss. His replacement hasn't played not just first grade, but NO FOOTBALL at all for 2 months. He is a reserve grader and being thrown into a GF?

Luke not only steers that team around, but he is very very strong in defense....

In saying this, I expect a fisting from the refs...

im not giving anything to the rabbits,rostos...im no dummy,i understand that in ANY sport at any level the game gotta be played,no matter how strong the perceived advantage to one side or the other, nothing is a given.....BUT based on wat i've seen from both sides it will be a big ask for the dogs to get over the line...NOT impossible by any means, everyone grows an arm and leg on these type of ocassions and any damn thing is possible, but just unlikely in my eyes.
i personally feel it could be extremely tight for a long way, perhaps 60 minutes or more as the dogs can match it with souths in the bash and barge game and wont take no backward step watsoever...but eventually i just believe that souths have a little bit xtra in terms of strike players and guys out wide that can pull sumthing out of nothing...yes,agreed they have yet to be tested or proven anything on the biggest stage..but i think the last cupple games have shown that the young boys in the side have the mettle and the composure to perform first time up.
dogs could definitely force a few errors with their hard hitting in defense but then souths hit just as hard and can ride their own defensive line to victory, however close it mite be....its hard to get the image out of ones head of guys from the opposition being consistently picked up and marched backwards by the monstrous rabbits pack over and over again and that type of stuff will get back sum of that territory and possession lost that you may be anticipating.
from wat i hear there are actually quite a few pundits and talking heads picking the upset for the dogs so they are not without their backers...and i can see that point of view for sure.this is no mug side...but for me wat puts it in perspective a bit is looking a little deeper into their run over the past few weeks and ya gotta ask yourself-"who have they really beaten??"...stumbled backwards into one of the lower playoff slots off the back of a sloppy loss to the woeful titans, then they were practically gifted a game by perhaps the worst storm performance ever witnessed.dogs were strong but really the storm just totally shot themselves in the foot and were not mentally engaged in that game at all,it was kinda bizarre to watch.then they just got over the top of a fast finishing manly side that were basically missing about 5 of their better players and had huge rumours of in-fighting and turmoil surrounding the club...and finally beat out a massively over achieving panthers team that was also missing more than a handful of key players.
so i just temper my enthusiasm for the dogs chances a little bit given that they havent faced maybe the strongest competition.....also remember a few weeks back wen the dogs gave the rabbits their best shot, played out of their skins as pretty heavy underdogs that nite.souths were rattled and unsettled and played absolutely awful most of the way....and yet souths still managed to find a way to win without ever really being allowed to get out of 3rd gear...thats says alot to me about the true gulf between the 2 sides.

once again, anything can happen on a big day like this and im not gonna keel over in shock if doggies pull it out.but i have to go by form and wat ive seen with my own eyes.
as far as spread is concerned theres no argument, value is squarely on the dogs+8.5...but to pick a winner only i take souths with 85% confidence.
but hey its sport, this is why they play the games!!!

History is not on their side, Serballin. Remembering no side outside the top 4 has won a GF since 1995

Would hedge for the $300 personally or if you're that confident, just ride it out.
