So did you watch the footage of the shot from overhead clepto?

I dont care that Woods won, Sergio choked and the rookie missed a putt that he should have made. Nobody stepped up and took control at the end.

That aside..the ball could never have entered the water where Casey and Tigggaa said..its impossible to even consider it went where Tiggaa dropped, he didnt even hit the kind of shot to make that even close to happen.

The tee box was cut right over the water, the ball never started in the path which would put him that far up, it is laughable that he would even act as if the ball entered from that spot.

OK, so why was there not a single mention of it on Live From after? You would think if there was a problem this story would be massive.

I was away from the TV when this happened. I honestly can't now believe this wasn't a bigger controversy.

It is the job of your opponent and his caddy to tell you where to drop.  And they did.  I've already seen a quote from Lingmerth saying, "yeah, his drop was fine."

It's not Tiger's call so give it up.

Also for those who don't think intimidation is part of Tiger's game, note the fact that not one golfer has been paired with on the final day in his 4 wins in 2013 has been under par.

Obviously he took a legal drop according to the rules but no question it was a bad drop.

It's another bad drop. You really have to question Tigers integrity because golf is that kinda game and obviously all Tiger wants to do is win. His competitive drive is so high that he'll do anything to win.

As far as the whole Sergio thing, I think it's bad etiquette. IMO I don't think a rule official said anything. Sergio is probably a whiner for it too. You can't blame a bad shot on anyone but yourself. So looks bad on both of them.

    But makes for good TV!

    Not really the point..

We have seen corrections made after the fact when a player made an improper drop or broke a rule etc.

It doesnt matter if his playing partner concurred, rather that the drop was wrong and it was VERY obvious.

Again..I dont like Tiggaa but nobody stepped up to win so congrats to him.

The issue was that the drop was off..VERY VERY off..like 100 yds plus off.

And clepto there was several mentions of it on the telecast..but it was almost like they were being poked with a hot iron to retract after they made the obvious correct initial call.

Look at the hole and try figuring how his ball would cross there given the trajectory of his shot.

Also for those who don't think intimidation is part of Tiger's game, note the fact that not one golfer has been paired with on the final day in his 4 wins in 2013 has been under par.

I watched the whole broadcast from 7am basically. I missed from the end of 12 to the start of the 16th in transit for Mother's Day.

How am I missing the point?  They don't have replay in golf.  It's up to his playing partner and caddy to make the call.  They did.  If it was wrong, it's not Tiger's fault.  If he says, "that's not right," then you can't put the genie back in the bottle...when do you decide to get input from the guy hitting the shot?  A complete mess.  This rule is in place for a reason.

Also, he still doubled the hole (he missed a pretty short putt).  If he would have gone back and re-teed, he still could have easily made 6 there.

It's another bad drop. You really have to question Tigers integrity because golf is that kinda game and obviously all Tiger wants to do is win. His competitive drive is so high that he'll do anything to win.

The point isnt the score on the hole, rather that the drop was wrong, way way wrong.

You commented that his partner concurred so it was done properly, well it wasnt done properly and his partner got it wrong.

Tiger seems to be doing this more regularly lately.

My point is that corrections are made all the time after the fact, the drop was wrong and it was way wrong. As you said there is no replay so the integrity of the game rests on the player during the round and the PGA/USGA correcting errors during or after the round.

I watched the overhead shot and it was extremely obvious, the water borders the left side of the hole, his shot was not a right hook and never started right, I find it funny how Tigga would even try and act like he hit a hard hook which went straight for 250 yds and then hooked right there where he claimed.

I am a HUGE fan of Woodsy but he got away with at least 70-100 yards closer to the hole.

The fact that the a few of the NBC guys are now playing a different tune as to the drop just goes to show you that the corporate media only shows/tells us what they think we want to see/hear.

It could have been an honest mistake but who knows. Like someone said he asked Wittenberg where to drop and he said drop here X is fine.

Rules are rules I guess and both players seem to have followed them technically.

On a side note we see another group of guys fall apart when Tiger is at the top of the leaderboard. Easy money was made fading Sergio and the kid on Sunday.

After doing a little more looking and watching some video, my opinion might be changing.  Woods can have some input.  And he asked Wittenberg if it got around that red stake on the other side of the hazard (quite possibly to gauge what he was thinking to see if he might get away with something).  He could have said, "no way, it did not"  I did notice he didn't follow the shot all the way, but he followed it enough IMO.

Here is a really good look at it:  2nd video is pretty good evidence.
    https://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/golf-devil-ball-golf/did-tiger-woods-improper-drop-en-route-players-124525467.html

    The Rule:

"Without definitive evidence, the point where Woods' ball last crossed the lateral water hazard is determined through best judgment by Woods and his fellow competitor,” the statement read. “If that point later proves to be a wrong point [by video or other evidence], the player is not penalized by Rule 26-1 [which deals with balls hit into hazards] given the fact that a competitor would risk incurring a penalty every time he makes an honest judgment as to the point where his ball last crosses a water-hazard margin and that judgment subsequently proves incorrect."

I forget what tournament it was but Miller and NBC were talking about the final round average for Woods playing partners and they were close to 3.5 shots worse than the field in the final round played. This was said in 2009 I think.

Now you have to think about this for a second, these guys are usually at the top of the field for 3 rounds and now all of a sudden they shoot over 3 shots worse than the field avg playing with Woods?

    That is STAGGERING IMO!!

    Hutch,

    Exactly...

It wasnt even close, it was so far off it is laughable. If you watch the trajectory of his shot there is NO way it could have been there.

I find it humorous that they didnt correct it during or even more after the round.

Woods got away with another one.

I must've replayed the overhead shot 5-6 times thinking "no way did that ever cross land after the tee box"............I too thought his spot was wayyyy too generous............it looked like he dropped almost adjacent to where the ball splashed. But, being a judgement call,  what else do you do?

I think Tiger took advantage of a weak competitor...........they might have said it went out further up but I would've played from where I KNEW it last crossed land in play.

Johnny Miller was questioning it afterward & I think Koch said it best about playing it "from where you're comfortable with yourself".

    It's time for cheataholic anonymous.

I hadn't even heard about this until Monday.

I started this threads after the Sergio incident on Saturday....and now this ?

    This is turning into WWF.

    Jeez...

....even the announcers were told to turn down the heat after their initial claims of a bad drop !

Johnny Miller said "I can't live with myself I I didn't say this may be a  bad drop"....then backtracked a minute later saying" All I said was it was very close".

    WWF

"Let Tiger Win ....cause we'll get good TV ratings....Even if we have to bend the rules for him."

    **************************************************

He cheated again and got away with it again.

    Great gamesmanship Tiger !!

We're all proud of you !!!

This is 100% false. You can ask the opinion of others to make sure it is proper, (Remember there are not always cameras and garbage around to verify!!) It ultimately comes down to the player himself. Although obviously with all the camera technology that would be different in a PGA Tour event. But if push comes to shove in a twosome it comes down to the player himself and NO ONE ELSE.

All you Tiger haters are just upset because your favorite golfer is not winning anymore... let me guess your favorite golfer is Mcilroy or Phil, maybe someone else. So what if he stands in view of a kid putting he is in a way helping the kid in the long run, have you ever thought maybe the kid learned that intimidation is not just the name always sometimes its physically seeing someone staring at you while you have a couple putts.

Now on the Sergio Garcia, he is a little kid out there. Tiger cant tell if the crowd will roar if he pulls out a club and if he did why should he care. Sergio is a grown up so he should be able to take what happens out there. If you are a true professional you should be able to regroup and gather yourself and continue playing your game. Sergio needs to mature as a individual and maybe he could win a major or a worthy tournament.
