ScorpioTD, I did some research and found that on these posts, after the first 17 pre-season games, you were correct on 8 of them ATS (throwing out the teasers and over/under. The casino I usually place my bets at aren't putting out teaser cards for pre-season) Coloneljim, under those same scenarios had 6 correct picks and you both have different points for this game. I really appreciate the extra analysis for the game and agree, KC probably does have the QB advantage. As stupid as this sounds, I'm sticking with Miami because usually when you prove your point that many ways where it seems like a no-brainer, you wind up wrong. I still don't see KC putting up many points against Miami's second and third strings. KC's offensive line may be the key to this because they are patched together and still trying to find something that works with some recent retirements.

Sure, I respect Miami's defense but KC picked up some key defensive FA's this past year (I mentioned them last week) and Coach Cunningham will have them attacking the Miami QB's...Coach Edward's program is ahead of Coach Cam's program at this point..one thing you guys may not fully understand is how incredibly difficult it is for a team that is in the initial stages of development to win on the road...it's the toughest task to accomplish by far...

I can't pick against KC in this spot...my plays are:

KC-3 (for the game)

KC -1.5 (for the first half)

KC +3 (in a 2 team six-point teaser - I'll match it with NYJ +1.5)

I know I am the only poster who likes KC...but I am rolling with them this Thursday...hope you all do well!

Hope you have a great week WVU...I play teasers all the time during the NFL Preseason as my place allows them...

As far as s/up plays, the only two games I have lost on are Pitts -6.5 and Jax -2...I pushed on Chicago -1...I wound up making money on the Jax game as I had them in a tease at +4 and the teaser was for more than the s/up bet was...as far as s/up bets, I have hit with Pitt (Hall of Fame Game), and in Week 1 I hit with NYJ, STL, Seattle, BM and Denver...I picked Dallas correctly but didn't play it...in teasers, I hit with NYJ, NE, STL, Jax, KC, Wash, Sea, BM and Denver...I did not play Chicago in a teaser..and lost a BUNCH as I had a big wad on Pitts -.5 in a teaser but GB upset them..

To be clear, I did not make a pick in three Week 1 preseason games (Cin/Det, Carol/NYG, Ariz/Oak)..I am not even sure what my "record" is but I know I have hit about 85% of the bets I have placed (s/up, parlays, teasers, half-times)...I know I won't continue to hit this percenatge but Week 2 and Week 3 have the chance to be successful...I will very likely lay-off entirely inWeek 4...

Hope you will post on the college threads...White and Slaton should have your team winning the money...I rode them a lot last year!

Great insight...once again. I think you the Chiefs are the right side with their quarterback rotation and personal.

Look forward to having a great football season and always like to see your opinions. On this game with all your stats I think you can throw them out the window. With all the coaching turnover from year to year those stats don't mean much. Every COACH has a different philosophy and that is what needs to be looked at (of course personal and depth are important). Edwards is 16-9 ATS going into this preseason. We play to win the game is his philosophy and I think he has the same mentality in the preseason. Regardless, good luck to you my friend and we still need to have that Covers convention at the Spearmint Rhino!!!

A five year old can give better insight to this game than you have. there is plenty of information to make an educated pick on preseason games. It's appauling to see someone make a selection and say it's a guess!!! Of course this forum allows you to make selections and comments as you wish (as long as you don't affend KOAJ) but most individuals take capping seriously and want insight not some cynical comments. Plus your comedy was not very funny....if you were trying to be funny. Good luck with your selection...though i doubt you even bet the game.

Oh yeah i said good luck, that doesn't mean a damn thing. You here poker players in a head's up all in say it all the time to eachother....do you really think they want their opponent to catch cards and beat them?

REASON FOR PICK: *4 MIAMI/KANSAS CITY Under** Some editing is due here as we move this play to the free area, and perhaps a good lesson in patience as the long gridiron campaign begins. When this play was first posted yesterday afternoon 34.5 was the consensus number, but not only did that get crashed, but the game ran right through the 34's as well, with as low as 33 now out there in some key precincts. This play only works at 34 or better, so use that as your guide - should it go back up you have a play, but one should never force action. Now to recap the original analysis - In Week #2 of the pre-season, the starters on offense begin to play a bit more, and as such the oddsmakers begin to set the Totals higher. The fact that we can win on a “34” right now in this one is evidence of that, despite the fact that this game only partially fits previous patterns. Yes, there will be ample time for the starters on offense, but the problem is that these starting units simply are not very good. Cam Cameron wanted to see something from Trent Green in his Miami debut last week, and as such gave the first team offense the entire first half vs. Jacksonville, something rarely done in a pre-season opener. Because of that, there is not the usual Game #1 – Game #2 offensive “boost”. And not only did the move not energize the offense; it may have backfired. They only managed two first downs on the first six drives, and only a short field created by a Jaguar fumble enabled them to get a field goal in the final minute before intermission. The ugly halftime numbers showed four first downs and 64 yards, and in 17 pass plays they netted only 50 yards, with two sacks and an interception in that mix. Since we chart an interception as being worth 40 yards, our “true net” comes out to two feet per pass attempt. Was it just rustiness for Green? Was it a case of a QB still learning the system, and his teammates? We can not think of a better answer than a somewhat amusing, but most telling, commentary from a Palm Beach Post reporter after Tuesday’s practice this week - ”It might be timing with new receivers, it might be age or maybe both, but Trent Green, 37, continues to throw behind his receivers. In the morning session, Green threw two passes behind Ted Ginn Jr. that CB Michael Lehan intercepted. He also was short on a pass down the middle to tight end David Martin that safety Yeremiah Bell dropped to squander another interception.” That is enough for us. And behind Green there is not much to fear, with Cleo Lemon no more than a journeyman, and John Beck still learning an NFL playbook. As bad as the Dolphins were on offense last week, the Chiefs nearly matched them. A team that is trying to get either Damon Huard or Brodie Croyle to step up and take over the starting QB role simply does not have the support pieces for their limited talents to be successful. An OL that was the NFL’s best a couple of years ago now rates among the weakest following the retirements of Willie Roaf and Will Shields; Larry Johnson will not be lugging the ball for several weeks; Priest Holmes is not available yet and is questionable to ever get back to speed; and the WR corps is extremely limited, particularly with rookie Dwayne Bowe late to camp. As such, it was no surprise that they had a disastrous time moving the football vs. Cleveland on Saturday – they did not score a single point behind either Huard or Croyle, and when we do our interception factoring, they actually averaged minus yards per pass attempt with each of them on the field. Yes, the pre-season is all about making corrections. But in this case we are not convinced that either of these offenses is up to the task at hand. The first five pre-season games coached by Edwards at Kansas City have finished a collective 40.5 points below the posted Totals, and that includes the rather fluky count at Cleveland, when there were TD’s by the defense and special teams, plus a safety, and yet the game still played Under. yeah, you know me...very loud and like to ruffle people's feathers. i just hate when someone makes stupid comments about a game. Heck, there is no guarantee in gambling but you can always make an educated pick and write-up. I think that in the pre-season you have a greater shot at winning then in the regualr/post season. Snowjockey usually has some insight but looking at the preseason game threads he brings nothing.....Oh well. I will give you a ring later and discuss some teaser talk and general capping material!!!...btw, have you heard from mr. j?

I know you have been busy busy busy in LA...and you are SO RIGHT in that we will still need to have that Covers Party at Spearmint Rhino (while celebrating my Dodgers winning the World Series - yeah right!!)...hope Colonel Jim can make it too...btw, I was at the Mall the other day and bought a few UCLA shirts in your honor...I look good in blue and gold for an old man!! LOL!

Dr. J will be taking it light this year I think...he may help us with Nevada and the WAC but will be out of action mostly...hope all is well and talk to you soon!

yeah, dr. j is good for that nevada inside info. I like the way you represent the powder blue and gold in big D. My buddy offered me a ticket to the OU Texas game.....is that game still played at the cotton bowl and how close are you to it. i'm not sure if I can make it or not...plus my Bruins play Notre dame that same day at the Rose Bowl.... a.k.a the the mecca of college football!!!

Yes.. it is played at the Cotton Bowl (which is almost as old as I am!) and I live very close to it...if you come out, you can stay here with me and your buddy can too if you guys want to...most Hotels are not all that much $$ here if you want to do that (it's not Beverly Hills - lol!)...the game is played during the annual State Fair so there will be a ton of people on the fairgrounds and it can be a lot of fun...

I love seeing those Pac-10 teams and those Mountain West teams get after it...it's an early bowl and often good for some early $$$....BYU did not disappoint last year!...but I think the guy who started for them at QB in that game will have a tough night at Arrowhead on Thursday! LOL!
