Further, the fact that it's one percent of the total budget is an illusion: our budgets have been exploding in recent years, and our deficits have been over a trillion dollars, so of course as a percentage its going to appear artificially low, but that masks the true increase in dollar amounts.
And your last point is a typical Keynesian fallacy: any dollar spent by government must first be removed from the private sector, meaning there's merely a trade-off, there is no multiplier. In fact, such spending missal locates resources, slowing economic recovery. While I realize there is a necessity for food stamps, it should be applied towards the truly needy. Not able bodied citizens leaching for a lifetime or people just trying to save a few bucks on their grocery bill each month at the tax payers expense.
You can't tell me that there is no fraud or waste on entitlement programs. It needs cleaned up and restructured the same as corporate welfare.
Why is it always one or the other? Why can't we clean up the waste in all programs.

The reason more people are needing things like welfare and food stamps is because there are less and less jobs in the country every year, but at the same time the population keeps growing. Now i understand you right wingers arent good with math problems, but even you guys should be able to figure out what happens when the countries population goes up, while the countries jobs go down.
