Something like two of the Dixiecrats actually switched to Republican, neither of which is still active. All the others remained as Democrats, including Robert Byrd who was a high ranking leader in the KKK. This is the Byrd that Hillary had nothing but high praise for. The Civil rights act of 1964 had more Republican support than Democrat. Democrats, in fact, did an 83 day filibuster, including Al Gore Sr. and Byrd. The only reason LBJ signed it in to law was because it served as a giant virtue signal. The Democrats were steadily losing support everywhere because of how garbage the party is, so he knew he had to switch up the strategy. Their bigotry and division still remains to this day.
