The Dallas Morning News won't endorse Trump

They have a conservative editorial policy and they almost always endorse Republicans in national elections.  Trump will still carry Texas without DMN's support.

I want to be accurate in the anaylysis and work straight from their statement: 

We have no interest in a Republican nominee for whom all principles are negotiable, nor in a Republican Party that is willing to trade away principle for pursuit of electoral victory.

Trump doesn’t reflect Republican ideals of the past; we are certain he shouldn’t reflect the GOP of the future.

Donald Trump is not qualified to serve as president and does not deserve your vote.

It starts with them stating that trump lacks principles or that it is negotiable.  Maybe this is in reaction to watching trump flipping and flopping around,  maybe it is because he has no identifiable history of positions or principles.

I think it is a smart strategy to jump ship with trump and get as far away as pososble from The Worst and Least ExpirriencedPresidential Candidiate Ever.  If Hillary is really as bad as they say then her approval rating as president will drop and she will be a one term president like Bush. And basically any qualified and experienced candidate should beat her.  

So I think that is what intelligent republicans would believe and utilize a strategy to ensure winning in 2020. But this is coming from a place of strength and confidence that Hillary will tank as a president.  Now for those that are fearful or believe that Hillary will actually make a wonderful president and be elected to two terms, their strategy would to be to fear Hillary winning and try to stop Hillary at all costs.  This would mean the smear campaign that is based on attacking her character rather than debating issues.  

Perhaps those that seek to smear Hillary or desperately hope her cough will stop her from running are fearful that Hillary will be a magnificent president and be elected twice.  Maybe they know that that she will be a magnificent president and win in 2020. 

Or perhaps we are seeing the division in the GOP between the intelligent people with principles and looking at a prudent strategy to win in 2020 and the emotional uneducated low information GOP voting  majority that voted for trump.  But it's is at least nice to see the principled and intelligent GOP taking a logical stance and employing a winning strategy for 2020

The Dallas Morning News editorial board is ending a streak of endorsing every Republican presidential nominee since 1968.

Big deal, it's better for a Republican.. if the Dallas Morning News didn't endorse them..as the most of the ones they endorsed lost..

1968: Lyndon Johnson (Democrat). WON

1980: Jimmy Carter (Democrat). WON

1994: Bill Clinton (Democrat). WON

1996 Bill Clinton (Democrat). WON

2008 - Barack Obama (Democrat) WON

2012- Barack Obama (Democrat).  WON

Their endorsement is more like a KOD...................

Donald J. Trump doesn't need their lousy endorsement blessing ...

Keep telling yourself that. Cherry picking all democrat winners as a jinx and not GOP winners is just silly. 

It could be said that Ronald Reagan could not have won with out the endorsement.  That it is only with the endorsement that he could win the presidency the twice.  And because he got it twice he won. 

Kart before horse logic always ends up seeming so desperate.  But desperate times I I guess with the GOP party fractured and in complete shambles.  It's just nice to know that there is a division between the intelligent principled people and the emotional low information people that will try to make up anything and everything possible regardless of reality

Some 88 retired U.S. generals and admirals ( including four four-star generals and 14 three-star flag officers), are endorsing Donald Trump in an open letter, saying they support the Republican nominee and “his commitment to rebuild our military, to secure our borders, to defeat our Islamic supremacist adversaries and restore law and order domestically.”

 They all support Donald Trump’s candidacy to be our next Commander-in-Chief.”...

Major General Sidney Shachnow, the only survivor of the Holocaust that became a U.S. general, and Rear Admiral Charles Williams, who received the Legion of Merit, organized the public letter.

“He has the temperament to be commander-in-chief,” stated Shachnow in a press release announcing the endorsement.

Williams suggested the letter means that military leaders believe “Donald Trump is more trusted to be commander-in-chief than Hillary Clinton..........”She has shown through her foreign policy decisions and her mishandling of classified information that she lacks the judgment to do the job......

Who can not agree with that last statement ?

Yup and Reagan couldn't have won with out the endorsement from this publication.  With out it Reagan would have lost in a landslide. The endorsement is so powerful that for the right candidate like Reagan it can tip scales and win an election.  Amazing stuff really

TLT has trouble with his reading comprehension.  I specifically stated in my original comment that Trump will still carry Texas without DMN's support.

What IS noteworthy is the fact that the DMN has endorsed a Democrat Presidential candidate that they don't really like for the first time in over 75 years.  They did that because of the utter contempt that they have for the Republican piece of garbage.

the dallas morning news already knows trump is going to lose so they wont bother giving them their blessing.

smart play so in four years they can say they didnt endorse the 'eventual loser'

Honestly I don't nitpick and sweat the small stuff.  There is often times enough wrong to talk about that.  Unless the errors are all part of a game to bait and trap people and is just typical antics.   I guess baiting and trapping wih games and antics is why certain posters come here.

1. There have been 29,000+ Muslim attacks in the last 15 years.

Isnt it all relative? 

I personally think the large number of threads made towards Obama and Clinton are not worthy of being created.. president of a country spurned Obama, Clinton coughed a bunch of times. Retired so and so said Obama isnt a citizen blah blah blah blah..

I'd say the opinion of a large newspaper which bucked a multi decade trend is as or more of value than 80% of the crap on the first page now.

I could make a thread sharing the details of my workout this morning and the subsequent breakfast that followed, and it would have more value than 80% of the posts on page 1. 

the point i was trying to make, and which didn't come across, was that newspaper endorsements don't mean much anymore to campaigns. Nothing like they used to. These campaigns don't give two sh$ts about newspaper readers. They're old and already decided. They only way this is relevant is if it keeps  some nevertrumpers from coming around to vote for Donald.

Tilt,

I agree with the impact that papers have now and that it is less for sure, but for a publication in a heavy republican area like that to not support Trump is a bit more interesting than if it were like Boston or LA etc..

I really think Trump is the worst repub finalist in my lifetime by a great distance..and that includes the last two who were pretty horrible as well.
