High tariffs on everything would provoke trade wars, damage economies, destabilize financial system, undermine national security, harm economic growth, cost jobs, ignite inflation, increase federal deficits and cause a recession. Tax burden would shift from the rich to the poor and middle class. It's impossible for tariffs to replace income tax revenue.
