The SCOTUS ruled that NY's subjective law about CC permits is unconstitutional. Previously, if a gun owner wanted a permit to be able to carry their weapon with them, they would have to give a reason WHY they wanted the permit to do so. Then, if they passed a background check, some other gov't. lackey would decide if the reason given was good enough & either grant/deny the permit. Here in Washington, as in most other states, you apply for the permit & if you pass the background check, you're granted the permit. New Yorker's can now enjoy the same freedom. thumbs_up

Backwards decision that threatens public safety by reckless supreme court on the wrong side of history.  Long term trends show increasingly stronger gun control in many countries worldwide.  While other countries adapt to change, US remains trapped in gun violence problem.

The gun violence problem comes from criminals in possession of a firearm illegally.

Why are democrats against doing something about the obvious problem?

It’s almost as if their puppet masters have ulterior motives.

According to FBI, under 10% of gun fatalities would be eliminated from stopping all violent crimes.  National rifle association is wrong saying that the reason for gun violence is that there are too many crimes.  Actually, FBI data indicates the reason for gun violence is that there are too many guns.

Clarence Thomas summed up what’s at the core of this issue in the majority opinion of this ruling:

“The constitutional right to bear arms in public for self-defense is not ‘a second-class right, subject to an entirely different body of rules than the other Bill of Rights guarantees. The exercise of other constitutional rights does not require individuals to demonstrate to government officers some special need. The Second Amendment right to carry arms in public for self-defense is no different.”

Here in Michigan, and Ohio, Florida, Nebraska, South and North Carolina you must pass a gun safety course that includes demonstration of competence firing live rounds before getting a CC permit. And of course background checks. Should be that way everywhere, IMO.

Like drugs, we are never going to get guns off the streets no matter how many laws passed.

THE REAL PROBLEM IS NOT ENFORCING THE LAWS WE HAVE NOW AND ENFORCING LAWS BASED ON POLITICAL AFFILIATION AND RACE. an_light

    Philadelphia; May, 2021;

In 2021, police are making arrests for carrying an illegal gun on a pace nearly three times that of 2017, according to an Inquirer analysis of police data and eight years of court dockets.

If the current pace continues, police will make more than 3,000 arrests this year for illegal gun possession — by far the most on record.

Thousands more people are being arrested for carrying guns illegally. But their chances of being convicted in court have fallen by nearly a quarter.

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, a reform-minded Democrat, questions the effectiveness of two commonly proposed solutions to this problem: restricting the supply of firearms, a strategy favored by many Democrats, and prosecuting people for illegal gun possession, which has bipartisan support. The latter approach, Krasner says, is not only ineffective but unjust and racially discriminatory.

THE REAL PROBLEM IS NOT ENFORCING THE LAWS WE HAVE NOW AND ENFORCING LAWS BASED ON POLITICAL AFFILIATION AND RACE. an_light

    Philadelphia; May, 2021;

This does not make any sense at all.

In 2020 there were 43551 total gun violence deaths:

    Homocides - 19395

    Mass murders - 21

    Mass shootings - 611

    Suicides - 24156

By definition ‘if you get rid of all violent crimes’ you, theoretically, prevent 100% of all the gun violence deaths.  Because, again by definition, no violent crimes were committed — so there would be NO gun deaths. So, that would be 100% of all violent gun deaths prevented — because, by definition, every violent gun death WAS a violent crime.

Even, if you take out the suicides, that would still be around 45%.  You could also argue that suicides are a personal thing and not a violent crime against another person.  In that case it would be 100% prevention of gun violence deaths.

Of course, this is theoretical and not praxis.

So, there is no telling what that 10% figure you are misrepresenting was supposed to really mean.

Secondly, of course if there is more availability of guns to commit gun violence with — then naturally, the violent criminal will USE a gun.  That is a very silly statement to make.
The issue is why you Leftists do not want to punish folks for having guns illegally.  Why you do not want to punish violent criminals.  Why you do not want to punish violent gun criminals appropriately.
The issue is NOT more availability of guns.  The issue is why is ALL violent crime up and not being addressed by the Leftists.  Why try to take guns from law-abiding citizens.  It is a cop-out because the Left refuses to address the true underlying issues.
Also, why do you never come back in here and admit when you are wrong on any issue?  Instead you just double down in supporting these ignorant Leftist policies.

I am not sure what the point is here.  So what?  You do not need to own a gun, shoot guns, or even know how they work to have a knowledgeable opinion on the overarching issues at hand.
If you want to own or shoot a gun, I would hope you would go out and get instructions on proper use and how it works first.
If not, I hope you do not own a gun.  an_light

That thinking is exactly the problem.   Everyone thinks bullet damage is like a movie or TV.   Comes out clean on the other side, or gets stuck inside and you go to a hospital and they pick it out and put it in that little pan.   Fact Check:  They do not remove bullets unless they are immediately life threatening.  They stay in the body and the body works it out to the skin eventually.

If they really wanted to change peoples minds, they should have shown pictures from inside the Uvalde classroom.   That would shake people to their core and actually get something done.   Parents ID'd their kids bodies by what leg was wearing what shoe.  Softball sized holes out the back of heads.  I wish some parents would have volunteered this.  Fucked people up.   Get serious about this shit.  Maybe the next kid with a tiny pecker who thinks this kind of carnage is cool would change their mind real quick.

FBI definition limits violent crimes to murder, man slaughter, robbery, rape and assault. But many reasons for shootings have nothing to do with violent crimes.  For examples, suicide, accident, argument, influence of drug or alcohol. So FBI data doesn't support National rifle association's claim that the most effective way to reduce gun violence is to cut down on crimes.

Yes more armed men and women in new York.

Because little reported events such as man killed gunman no known causulties resulting isn't making the evening feature on media outlets.

The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

Laws are useless because criminals could care less of what the law states at this degree. They are going to kill until they are killed or run out of ammo....

We can't constrict ammo god forbid so in lui we must armmo potential neutralizes to the rash of gun violence .

Thats my point. Get serious about it.  Crack down on the criminals with a gun. Crack down on the ones that commit crimes with a gun. Then make sure the legal ones that do own a gun know how to use it.  Punishing the legal gun owners will never address the problem.  It is bad logic to take away the legal citizens when the Left will not even take away the criminal’s guns.  They will not punish the criminals and take them off of the streets.  But would rather serve the real issue and take away some of the buffer and safety from the law abiding citizens.

Yes, if you get rid of all violent crimes committed with guns, that includes murder. Murder is a violent crime — by definition.  So, that is already 45% of the gun violence murders.  Again, if you exclude suicides — which is personal and assume a lot would use other means — you have stopped 100% of the rest.  If you take the violent criminal off the streets and take the guns from THEM then you stop the robberies and assaults with a gun — again, by definition violent crimes.  ALL violent crimes are up!  Address that — not the law abiding folks that may be simply protecting themselves from the violent criminals YOU guys won’t stop.
