WASHINGTON – Former House Speaker Paul Ryan excoriated fellow Republicans
in a rare statement that called planned GOP efforts to challenge President-elect
Joe Biden's win as   "anti-democratic   and    anti-conservative."

Ryan, a Republican from Wisconsin, issued a lengthy statement decrying Republican
plans to object to certifying the Electoral College results in a joint session of Congress
on Wednesday.

"Efforts to reject the votes of the Electoral College and sow doubt about
Joe Biden’s victory strike at the foundation of our republic," Ryan said in a statement.

"It is difficult to conceive of a more anti-democratic and anti-conservative act
than a federal intervention to overturn the results of state-certified elections
and disenfranchise millions of Americans.    The fact that this effort will fail
does not mean it will not do significant damage to American democracy."

"The Trump campaign had ample opportunity to challenge election results,
and those efforts failed from lack of evidence. The legal process was exhausted,
and the results were decisively confirmed," he added.

"The Department of Justice, too, found no basis for overturning the result.
If states wish to reform their processes for future elections, that is their prerogative.
But Joe Biden’s victory is entirely legitimate."

In late November, Ryan reportedly called for Trump to concede and
drop his lawsuits, telling virtual banking conference attendees
Trump's campaign was offering "baseless conspiracy theories."

Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., said Friday it was "indefensible" that some House Republicans
have minimized the Jan. 6 riot and downplayed violence between Capitol Police officers
and former President Donald Trump's supporters who attempted to disrupt the
congressional count of the 2020 election results.

"The notion that this was somehow a tourist event is disgraceful and despicable,"
Cheney said in an interview with ABC's "This Week" Co-Anchor Jonathan Karl.

"I won't be part of whitewashing what happened on Jan. 6.
Nobody should be a part of it and people ought to be held accountable."

"It is disgraceful that so many Republicans since then have  
  tried to whitewash or gloss over what happened."

The Republican who now leads the Arizona county elections department targeted
by a GOP “audit” of the 2020 election results is slamming former President Trump
and others in his party for their continued falsehoods about how the election was run.

Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer on Saturday called a Trump statement
- accusing the county of deleting an elections database - “unhinged”
and called on other Republicans to stop the unfounded accusations.

“We can’t indulge these insane lies any longer.
As a party. As a state. As a country,” Richer tweeted.

In recent days, he and the board have begun calling out the continued falsehoods
from Republicans who question Trump’s election loss.

“Enough with the defamation. Enough with the unfounded allegations,”
Richer tweeted Thursday. “I came to this office to competently, fairly,
and lawfully administer the duties of the office. Not to be accused by own party
of shredding ballots and deleting files for an election I didn’t run. ENOUGH!!”

The board, led by Republican Chairman Jack Sellers, has gone on Twitter in recent days
firing off a series of messages slamming "Cyber Ninjas" doing the ballot examination.

“I know you all have grown weary of lies and half-truths six months
after 2020 General Elections,” Sellers said Friday in announcing Monday’s meeting.

A GOP state senator blasted the 2020 election vote audit in an Arizona county,
saying “it makes us look like idiots.”

“Looking back, I didn’t think it would be this ridiculous.
It’s embarrassing to be a state senator at this point,”
Arizona state Sen. Paul Boyer, who previously supported the audit
in Maricopa County, added on Friday, according to The New York Times.

state Senate President Karen Fann (R), who ordered the recount,
the Maricopa county board (4 of 5 are Republican) criticized the
audit as a ‘spectacle’ that is causing Arizona to be a ‘laughing stock’
and encouraging people to distrust elections.

To ensure electoral integrity, Arizona secretary of state warns voting machines are now unusable because of cyber ninja.  Machines are tampered by amateur, uncertified auditors with zero transparency.  Replacing hundreds of machines could cost millions of dollars.  Also critics are convinced countless ballots have been altered, stolen, trashed or gone missing.  No way this ugly audit can end well.

In their letter to Fann, the REPUBLICAN county board of supervisors called out ‘the big lie,’
referring to the false claim the election was stolen from Trump. There has
been NO evidence of wide spread voter fraud in the presidential contest and
multiple recounts have confirmed Biden’s victory.

‘It is time to make a choice to defend the Constitution and the Republic,’
they wrote in the letter obtained by The Washington Post.
‘We stand united together to defend the Constitution and the Republic
in our opposition to the Big Lie.
We ask everyone to join us in standing for the truth."
