That's correct...the rich can get poor, the poor can get rich, the middle class can get rich, and the middle class can get poor...what don't you understand about that?
Please do some thinking and research before you post on topics you know nothing about.
a) the gap between rich and poor has substantially increased over the past 25+ years.
b) the gap between rich and poor countries has substantially increased over the past 25+ years.
The gap between the rich and poor is widening.

Ideal market capitalism says nothing about social classes. In principle, it a classless society -- that is, a society with only one class, without class divisions.....
you think it over Disco
That's exactly the point. this theory doesn't account for the FACT that in REALITY there are nor only different classes, but inherent entitlements according to those classes and ignores the fact that in reality those entitlements are far more available and far more valuable to those already well off.
Therefore, it is not a level playing field and those with an advantage will always be better off than those who are not afforded the same level of entitlements.

Seriously mike you trying to convince people that capitalism is a system without classes is like trying to convince us the world is flat again. It won't happen because it is blatently false.
It doesn't even work in theory. Break it down in the simplest of forms.
if socialism/communism is the elimination of classes, and it is the opposite of capitalism...then wouldn't capitalism be the strengthening of class divisions!?!?

Social theorists argue that modern democratic society is a “classless society” because social and economic mobility have obliterated the dominance of a single group of people.
Some modern scholars argue that traditional social classes do not exist in modern democratic society. Their argument is based on a definition of “class” which includes specific measures of class identity. Some of these are the demographic and ethnic similarity among members of a class; the extent to which the members of a class share a common cultural orientation; whether the members of a class share distinct, life-defining experiences and a common sentiment about their class status; and whether the members of a class have a common political affiliation. In a modern democratic society in which education is universally available and social mobility is tied to economic success, these criteria could be used to conclude that it is a classless society.
Critics argue that because economic status determines access to education and opportunity, a self-perpetuating upper class does exist even in a democratically mobile society. Perceptions of a dominant social class are strong in democratic nations, such as the UK which have a historical aristocracy.

what are you talking about?
Captialism provides EVERYONE the opportunity to improve their situation...the problem is that you actually have to go out and WORK for what you want to achieve which some people do not want to do....they want everything PROVIDED for them from cradle to grave....and you see from all of the socialist and communist countries in the world how well that has worked out....even if you are "poor" ( which is relative") under Capitalism you are still better off than 99% of most of the world...
What is wrong with their being classes of people anyway, so long as a person is not being purposely oppressed?
Why does everyone have to be the same? I don't want to be the same as anyone, and I will do everything in my power to see that I can get the best for myself and my family...this is only really open and available to people who live in a Capitalist country...
If you all are so unhappy living in a capitalist country, WHY DON'T YOU LEAVE? Seriously....the great thing about Democracy is that you CAN LEAVE! We are not Cuba or East Germany where you are enslaved to the state and all of your individual freedoms are stripped away from you...YOU CAN REALLY LEAVE!
Think about it....

get serious. For those of us educated on the matter it is understood that there are instiutional barriers in place that DO NOT provide everyone the same opportunities. This is a fact.
It is an issue of entitlements. There is little to no merit to the arguement that poor people are lazy, and that all you have to do is work to magically improve your situation.

O right, you should vote RNC because there are no more poor people mike.
Face it. You don't know wtf you're talking about, so you look for something to cut and paste in that might relate to the topic.
Right mike, it's a classless society...there are no poor people, no rich people.
So there are poor people and rich people..what is WRONG that? Why is it a crime to be rich? Rich people worked hard to get what they have in most cases...why do they have to share or give back what they worked so hard to get? Is that fair?
Who are you anyway? You're just jealous because you aren't smart enough to get rich....and will be worrying about every dime that you spend for the rest of your sorry life...
Capitalism affords EVERYONE living under the opportunity to become ANYTHING that they desire to be...
Apparently, you live in Canada, what do you know about the USA anyway? And why are we even having this conversation?
In my life, I've seen poor people become rich overnight (and vice-a-versa) because of our wonderful economic system that we are lucky to live under....what are you talking about?
