  Another face of the GOP, George Santos               pleads not guilty to 10 new charges of FRAUD

Washington CNN —

Rep. George Santos pleaded not guilty in federal court Friday to 10 charges alleging he stole donors’ identities and ran up thousands of dollars in fraudulent charges on their credit cards, among other offenses.

The New York Republican’s attorney Joseph Murray entered the not guilty plea on behalf of his client.

US District Judge Joanna Seybert set a trial date for September 9, 2024.

The 10 charges were unveiled in a superseding indictment filed earlier this month. It also includes allegations that the New York Republican embezzled cash from his company and conspired with his former campaign treasurer to falsify donation totals in order to hit fundraising targets set by national Republicans, among other offenses.

This fresh round of charges brings the total number of counts against the republican to 23.

These most recent charges against the republican are part of a revised indictment filed earlier this month, tacking on conspiracy to commit offenses against the United States, wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, access device fraud, false statements to the Federal Election Commission and falsifying records to obstruct the commission, according to The New York Times.

A tentative September 9 trial date has been set, which puts Santos in an awkward position as the date lands just under two months before the November general election, and his seat is anything but secure.

Republican Chip Roy complains that GOP is useless.  Current House republicans do nothing for the American people because they are engaged in fighting each other, frivolous investigations and appeasing Trump.  They don't try to find common ground with democrats or find solutions to problems.  Despite a majority, dysfunctional House GOP cannot pass major policies without the help of democrats.  Center for American progress calls MCCarthy's congress the least productive in decades.

Do the Democrats ever get asked to find common ground with Republicans?  This is always an issue in a sharply divided Congress.  Why are you acting surprised by this?
