...Actually, there’s a big reason to think that a federal minimum wage isn’t a good policy in general. As Slate’s Jordan Weissmann points out,
the huge differences in local costs of living mean that in some areas,
$15 is only a small increase, while in others it’s a huge boost. This
means that a $15 federal minimum wage would only raise the wages of the
urban working class a modest amount, but would raise the wages of the
small-town working class a huge amount....

It's no mystery how I feel about this subject.
Then the urban working class would all move to the country and become rich.Chaos would ensue and it would be the end of the USA.

Yeah. Sorry. It doesn't work that way. The sorry ones will be getting the 15 as well. That's the problem. The good ones by definition will start to get more than minimum wage. Then the hamburger cost goes up etc. Then all is back the way it is again with a new number is all.

It's funny to see how prescribed talking points try be defended when faced with reality.
And for the record I am not for setting a minimum wage at this amount. I honestly think that both sides will selectively try to infer tremendous effects of this that will IMHO have little or no significant effect

What a waste of a post.
What exactly do you mean with your first sentence?

No need to worry because minimum wage increases normally fail to keep up with inflation. Majority of States set a higher minimum wage than federal minimum. Very few cities have $15 minimum wage. Besides, only a small minority of workers and businesses are affected.
Overall, there is no concensus among economists about the effects of minimum wage on employment and economic growth. Some studies find no harm from small gradual increases spread over time.
However I agree higher minimum wage is an unfair burden for some industries. A better alternative to help more poor people is more tax credits (free money) from government.

DL's coming up on 25K of them...
Moron's that believe the minimum wage should be $15 probably make $9 currently and believe in the Socialist mentality, they can't make it so they want it given to them. My first wage was $2.65 (in high school). I don't remember ever considering, believing, or feeling entitled that I should've been able to live on it either... Of course the public wasn't brainwashed at the time to believe that something sinister was going on, and that I should've been earning more with absolutely no job experience.

My first working wage was 3/hr. My dad in grained in me the following at that time: "If they aren't making money off of you, they can't afford to keep you."
I knew Darryl wouldn't explain his first sentence. He thinks nobody will challenge him on his bull kaka statements.
Anything he doesn't want to expose his liberal views on he labels 'talking points'.

Ironic that you make a waste of a post to say that. Lol!
There was a typo.
I meant to say it's funny to see how prescribed talking points try to be defended when faced with reality.
It's also funny that the insults, name calling and trying to call me a liberal pop up.
Seems like a meltdown is starting rather than addressing my statements

I assumed that you had corrected yourself wrongly here.
Kudos to you if you actually knew 'engrained' was a word. I assumed you meant 'ingrained' which is what is almost always seen. Never have I seen 'engrained', as I recall.

Or some one who is making 20 bucks an hour and is concerned about their self worth being belittled.I feel sorry for those that measure a mans worth by his bank account, and those who would begrudge others a couple more dollars an hour. And i dont care who you are or what you do for a living but you best believe that there are others that could do it as well or better.....for less.

Was the 2.65 " given to you " or did you earn it. Then why is it that you cant understand that people do work hard for theirs.

That's actually part of the problem. Nobody is begrudging someone, who is worth it, getting more. But to give someone more just because they do not have the ambition or skill to do anything but minimum wage jobs is not the correct thing to do. Yes, there are people also that will actually do the minimu wage jobs better---and they will do it for less also! Sure, someone may do a higher skilled job better. But eventually supply and demand will dictate that person will get paid more. Unless, as you imply, money doesn't mean that much to them and they 'settle' or are okay with getting less than they deserve.
You mixed in a couple of things there and assumed a couple of things that are not always true to imply the MW should be raised. But it becomes a cycle then.

The issue is far more complex than what you or any other lib has articulated.
What happens to the price of two bedroom apartments when suddenly more people are in the market to acquire one? What happens to ambition when financial merit is handed to them?
What happens to the price of houses when suddenly a lot of people are in the market to purchase one? What happens to the economy when the unsustainable market corrects itself?

If there's 10 people for a job, 5 that are model employees and 5 that are slackers, why should they all make $15 (or whatever $ amount you wish to assign the MW)? The business/employee determines wages, always has and always should. If the employee doesn't like the wage, go find another position. Certainly a "minimum wage" is necessary but I believe where its at is accurate.
The people that want to pay the McDonald's help will be the first to shrill about why the soda will be $3 and the cheeseburger that used to be $1.50 cost $4. People will stop going, as they will to many businesses because they won't accept or can afford the costs of paying a high school student $15 to flip burgers part-time.
My first job was in a bowling alley. I started at cleaning it, then worked the counter, worked on the machine (pin chaser), maintained the lanes and drilled bowling balls. I'd say yes I earned the $2.65 I started at. I got a raise when it went to $2.90. I knew at the time there was no money in working in a bowling alley. I got a real job that started at $3.50 an hour. I didn't have the "entitled" mentality that Gen X has been infected with today.
