Platner, the Democratic nominee challenging Republican Sen. Susan Collins, has faced growing calls to drop out following sexual assault allegations, which he has denied. The controversy has prompted Democrats in Maine and nationally to urge him to withdraw so the party can move forward with another candidate.
Murphy-Anderson said Platner’s team has repeatedly contacted the Maine Democratic Party in an effort to shape the replacement process.
"Graham Platner’s team has repeatedly reached out to us in an attempt to put their thumb on the scale of what this process looks like," Murphy-Anderson said.
A spokesperson for Platner’s campaign denied that characterization Tuesday night, saying the campaign had contacted the party only to understand how the process would work.
"The Platner campaign has reached out to the party to try and understand what this process would look like," the spokesperson said. "At no point has the campaign tried to ‘put its finger on the scale.’"
The spokesperson said more than 150,000 Mainers voted for Platner’s campaign and more than 15,000 people volunteered for it.
"While Graham wouldn't want to be a part of the process, he would want to make sure the voters and volunteers make this decision — not the political establishment," the spokesperson said.
Murphy-Anderson said the party has told Platner’s campaign that it has no role in choosing the next Democratic nominee or determining the process for doing so.
"We have also reiterated that Graham Platner must drop out of this race so that Democrats in Maine can focus on defeating Susan Collins this November," Murphy-Anderson said.
Under Maine’s election timeline, Platner would need to formally withdraw before Democrats could move forward with replacing him on the ballot. Murphy-Anderson said the party plans to make the replacement process public once Platner officially leaves the race.
"We look forward to making this process public as soon as Graham Platner formally withdraws from this race," she said.

The White House rolled out the so-called "Freedom Fuel Network" this week, promising gas would be $3.47 a gallon in honor of the “47th President.” But it didn’t take long for that number to change.
The app GasBuddy has been tracking prices at most of the 25 Freedom Fuel locations and found most were charging at least $3.57 a gallon by this morning. Social media posts from New Jersey and Pennsylvania showed the same thing. Not a single tracked station was actually selling gas at the advertised $3.47.
One station in New Jersey was even caught charging $3.89 earlier in the week before it eventually lowered the price.

Gas price was $3 a gallon before Iran war. Few gas stations are in freedom fuel network so many drivers won't benefit. For most gas stations, breakeven is over $3.60 so low price may not be sustainable in long term. Unlikely they want to operate at loss by matching price.

Kentucky Democrat Governor Andy Bashear & Liberal Media almost blew it with the McConnell situation because they listen to their uninformed voters! The Dem Politicians & Media have pulled back from crucifying McConnell because they understand the Kentucky Law for Senator replacement in Kentucky is weak & full of holes.
So the Plan is to wait until after the Special Election Deadline then have Gov Bashear challenge the Kentucky Laws while appointing a Democrat Senator to replace Republican Mitch McConnell. The Dems will use lawyers to delay Republican counter attacks meanwhile the New Dem Senator will be finishing out McConnell’s term voting Dem in the Senate rest of 2026.
All that being said Dems are under tremendous pressure & using vital resources to fight against the coming DOJ prosecutions for the 2020 election rigging & the 2016 Russia hoax. The Dem Lawyers can’t be in two places at one time & the Dem Politicians want to avoid Prosecution for above crimes!
