The healthcare fight is exactly what most bring up. It is there feeling that Healthcare was given the highest priority over the wars unemployment and the economy. Well, the number of US troops in Afghanistan when Obama took office was around 34k.  By this summer, there will be about 100k.

You said most Canadians supported the war under Bush, but not under Obama because it's a lower priority to Obama than Bush?

You can't be fucking serious. Not only is there absoluetly no way this is true, it's laughable, and the opposite is far more likely.

I would say about 85%+ of the people I talked to oppose the wars, especially under Bush, but I would say accross the country on average it's close to 50/50.

However, your reasoning on support dropping in Canada because of Obama taking office is somewhat baffling and in no way an accurate representation of Canadians overall

To answer your question...

I believe it's irrelevent, and that the President's office can manage multiple priorities. I know this may be somewhat surprising after the ADD excuse for a presidency the Bush administration was.

I would also like to point out how funny it is that republicans make such a huge fuss over the attempt to reform a completely inept and corrupt healthcare system while at the same time one third of your tax dollers goes to killing people through these bullshit wars.

I believe I stated  most Canadians I have heard meaning people I have talked with about this. That is only about 20 people so a very small sampling so hardly a representation of all of Canada. I live on the border of New Brunswick, I am sure feelings differ somewhat by provoinces to just like many states here in the US are considered liberal or consrevitive

From the articles I have read most republicans feel there was a need for reform not just the reform that was passed. If you have polling data saying otherwise I would certainly like to look it over because I could be misinformed.
Please provide that data.
Now onto the war.
If you were never a US citizen, who are you to call it a bullshit war. The US was attacked, easy for anyone outside the US to say how Americans should feel.
I wasn't interested in US politics untyil I moved back here. Why are you so interested and involved?

If I said back burner it was a poor choice of words I thought I said healthcare was a priority. Thank you for the link as your article pointed out he athorised 17,000 troops in February (The General on the ground requested 30,000 troops ) but they werent to be deployed until May, and that was after President Obama's administration completed a strategic review of the Afghan war in late March.
As you can see from this Washington Post article ( same source you used ) President Obama backed healthcare reform the day he was sworn in.

I am fully within my rights to have my opinion for a number of valid reasons. First of all Canada has troops in Afghanistan, that's the whole point of this thread. Secondly, the biggest reason I feel these are bullshit wars is because a number of aspects contradict international law.

Illegal wars, conducted illegally, for illigitamite reasons are fair game to be called 'bullshit' in my book and many others.

In fact, I think these wars are far worse than bullshit.

Atleast we have Denmark and Britain fighting in Helmand along with the Americans.

Americans being the ones who arrived lately. The danes and brits have been there for a while and taken heavy casulties.

Right.  Presidents have an agenda when they take office - a set of goals they wish to accomplish.  He had a set of priorities, obviously including the healthcare overhaul.  How does that take away from his rapid escalation of the number if troops in Afghanistan?  If anything, Obama has been far more of a hawk in Afghanistan than Bush.

I agree 100% that President Obama has focused his attentions more on Afghanistan than Iraq. I think most of that has to do with the war in Iraq is over and the Iraqis have now had a few elections and are able to fend for themselves.

this war isn't going to be won by killing every last taliban supporter or al qaeda member. Its going to be won gradually by providing a better option for security, education, employment, democracy, and freedom. 

The reach of the taliban's influence has been dramatically reduced and al qaeda is on the run. The combat mission may as well be over and other agendas need to be pushed up. The west needs to focus on rooting out corruption in the government and the security forces rather than on firebombing a bunch of opium farmers with AKs. Only then will Al Qaeda and the taliban cease to be a viable alternative.

I'd like my fellow Canadians to ignore the childish ramblings of an old man on a message board. Bob gets a hard by making you guys pissed. He's not actually retarded, he just plays one on the internet.

The biggest problem today in Afghanistan is the drug trade. Joe Afghani needs to feed his family and right now his choices are poppy or a Taliban fighter. If Joe Afghani gets a third option life will be much better over there

I couldn't help but think that this was some kind of slight towards Canadians, as Denmark is actively seeking to infringe upon Canada's right to arctic sovereignty.  Move along now Denmark, we've got bigger problems, like the U.S and Russia, to worry about. 

Anyhow, Canada has a strong military presence in Afghanistan, particularity in the violent Kandahar region. They are actively fighting the Taliban, as well as training Afghan troops.  We have also suffered many casualties.
