Abbott and Dan Patrick were in the middle of congratulating themselves with the "help" of Ted Cruz standing behind them offering tots and pears when Beto came right up front to their faces and laid into them. Patrick yelled back that this isn't about politics. But politics is EXACTLY what it's about. It's the lawmakers who change the laws.

Problem is that bad politicians are being elected. Instead of smart moderate candidates with the best ideas, system tends to favor selfish extremist candidates who can raise the most money. This is harmful for democracy and partly explains toxic polarization in politics.
