9.3 Million open jobs...the most EVER...

I didn't read your link. I'm not a Clay Travis fan.

Some have decided to go back to school, some have decided to stay at home to take care of their children & some have decided to leave the workforce while taking early retirement. Some fear working in the public arena will increase their chances of catching covid. Those in the hospitality industry are tired of working for low wages & tips while dealing with irate customers hassling them when asked to wear a mask. People are not willing to take the risk of catching the virus when they can be compensated by the government. However, that assistance will eventually go away. These benefits are helping keep Americans heads above water & I doubt many are being enriched by this help. Small businesses are not in a position to increase wages. There's no doubt some Americans are taking advantage of the government's largess but that has always been the case in our country.

With business restrictions being eased, & schools opening in a few months & many benefits ending in September, I think better employment opportunities will become available. We still have over 8 million jobs that disappeared during the pandemic with company closings & employee layoffs. The industries hit the hardest by the virus will be the slowest to recover. Cruise lines, airlines, hotels, restaurants, movie theaters all fall into that category. 

We are headed in the right direction again.

That may have been the case a few months ago, but now?? I don't think so.

A couple can sit at home and get $80,000 a yr free from the govt. THAT IS WHY NO ONE WANTS TO GO BACK TO WORK FOR THE SAME OR LESS.

Reminds me of the $2000 promise to Georgia residents if they voted democrat. That worked so let's give $$$ to the whole country.

You're damn right I'll keep believing. Even when Trump was in office, I was helping my fellow Americans. I helped people laid off from Motorola create resumes because after working 20+ years at that company, they never had the need for one.

It takes all of us to make things better. It must really suck to be so negative about the future. Do something for the country besides bitching about it.

 Or do you think people not wanting to go back to work is more along the lines of the socialist mentality that that government should be paying their way of life? Or maybe nobody has looked ahead to the end date of the UI and people are going to be in a big shock when the govt cuts off UI? 

I hope everyone that's not going back to work because that job pays less then UI has spent the last year and a half trying to move up in pay scales by furthering their education or going into a trade. That is how we are going to "build back better". Asking the gov't to pay your way of life will NEVER "build back better".

The jobs being offered are not wealth building, sustainable income jobs..those we allow to be shipped off to India or Indonesia for cut rate wages.

Any time I read some sensational headline that seems absurd it usually is and the details will tell the full story.

Instead of looking at the big lights look at average hourly earnings because that is a much better measure of job pressures and if companies are raising wages to acquire real workers doing real jobs that are not churn and burn inflation killing positions.

The only jobs a country should have are “wealth building” jobs? 

Tell me how these people are better off on welfare rather than actually learning skills in the real world. 

How many wealthy people in America do you think have worked a job that is not a “wealth building” job?

IMO, China has us by the nads. Everytime I purchase something, "Made in China". My flooring, furniture, even my chainsaw. Looking for a log splitter, found one made in USA. Have to pay twice as much for made in USA as China dumps the market with log splitters, like everything else.

Waaaaayyyyy back when I first got married, late 1970's, I busted my ass as a gas station manager. Looking to do better I kept at it. Finally opportunity knocked and it was General Motors or a lower paying government job with better pension benefits. Chose the govt. job and GM laid off 3000 90 days after they wanted to hire me. I would have been back on the street if I took the GM job. Made the right choice.

Midnight I have helped many people improve themselves over my career, held training classes on my time for free, etc.  Very proud of those who succeeded. I did my part, retired now. Find now our govt. is OVERREACTING to the Trump Admin. Everything in opposite direction no matter how detrimental it is. Reminds me of a child who resents their parents and now the parents have gone away.

I was never in love with Trump. Big ego bully type. Full of himself. BUT, he did try to surround himself with knowledgeable people and he held them accountable, unlike politicians who give posts to friends and big donars. I don't like what I'm seeing, I lived thru the Jimmy Carter years, here we go again.

You got your opinion, I have mine. Hope for the best.

 That's fair but I disagree with Trump holding people accountable. 

Keep doing whatever you can for our brothers & sisters that are not as fortunate as you & I. So many people are in need.

Spot on. In Wally’s world if a job won’t pay you 6 figures on day one you should just throw your hands up, complain that the game is rigged, and get on government assistance. No solutions, just endlessly point out how unfair life is
