Starting July 1st, Florida will have NL cash game, hellajuah...no more $2(lucky bingo) pot limit for me, where you have 10 player flops and everyone calls you till the river to crack your rockets

my only NL experience are Sit and Go,multitable tourneys, and some home games

I'm planning to play tight and wait for premuin hands, AA,KK,QQ,JJ,1010, suited AK,AQ

are there any good books by Chip Reese

Chip reese doesn't have a book yet but doyle brunson's is good, premium hands are also pocket pairs, you flop a set and you have  a big hand, big suited cards, suited connectors, you need experience, position is big and also knowing what each player is capable of and the type of table you are at, in low limits position is almost meaningless but in no limit, it is huge, there are hands you don't wanna play in early position where you can play them in late position.

Harrington's books are very good, but they are tournament oriented.

I was going to say that.  My advice is to start playing low limits(3/6, 4/8) first.  I think you can get a solid foundation before playing N/L.  You have to watch the action and know your opponents' motives behind the action.

Remember:  you have to walk before you run.

It's not enough to play tight.  You have to know what's going on at all times.  You just can't sit back, play tight, and expect to win.  Think about it you have 4 betting rounds(preflop, flop, turn, and river).  On each betting round, you not only have to decide to check, bet or raise, but also have to decide by how much.  So on any given hand you have to make up to 5 or 6 decisions.  And if you make a big mistake on any of them, you can kiss your chips good-bye.

    thanks for the replies fellas

I hear your Godfather16, position is very important in NL, I understand since I played NL tourneys, I see donkeys raising with aces rag under the gun and get caught when someone in later position moves in.

Do you apply the same principles as a multi-table tourney, will there be a lot bluffing or it depends on the table, I cant see people bluffing their hard earn cash away, tournament chips maybe,  will the short stack players  be afraid of the big stacks

    ColonelKurtz

I got a lot experience in NL tourneys and Sit and Go, but not cash games
I know how to set traps for the overly aggresive players, fold when Im been check raise by a rock, solid, concrete player in a tourney, even muck QQ preflop when there was raise and the chip leader moves all-in

Do you need to bluff in cash games to win money?

Do you need to bluff in cash games to win money?

Of course you do.  But not to win the pot there, but to keep your opponents guessing so you can get paid on your big hands.  Don't over do it.

    troy-

In cash games, people always have the option of buying back in.  So you may bust someone, but they can be back in the game the next hand.  I think you have to bluff no matter what poker game you play.  But you have to pick the right spots.  I think in cash games, you have to be willing to play a few more speculative hands......it's more about odds....no one's poker life is at stake no matter what bet you make (if they lose, they just buy in for more $).  So you can't put the same pressure on as you might in a NL tournament.

Example:  If you would be getting 1.3:1 on your money in a tournament and a call means you might be out of the tournament (and you think you are in a coin flip), the fact that you can get eliminated from the tournament could definitely be enough to get you to fold.  In a cash game, you'd be much more likely to play because yes, you can lose money....but you aren't risking the fact that you could be eliminated from the tournament and sacrificing the opportunity to win huge cash (if you go deep).

But you have to bluff sometime or you'll never get any respect....no matter what you play.

troy, i also read that the buy in for hold em games i florida can be no more than $100, so my guess is they would be able to have 4/8 or even 6/12 limit but no higher and that they will have NL but there is a $100 max buy in

Troy - there is no perfect "system" to play cash...each game has it's own pace, players and dynamic....there are times to raise in first position when you flop trips and times to slow play that hand...there is no "rule" so to speak...

I would tell you that the best thing to do is read books and play smaller no-limit games in the beginning...be careful with doyle's no limit book b/c it's based on playing DEEP stack no limit and is not really what most no-limit players play...I would recommend david skalansky's book on no-limit holden (don't confuse this with his tournament book)....

Good luck...there a plenty of bad players out there you will beat...

its funny the first 4 days, they screwed up and were letting everyone play up to 25/50 no limit games with 10000 buy ins....they realized they were playing illegal games and said "they misinterrupted the law."

now I think the highest is 2/5 no limit with max $100 buy in.

so its pretty much, raise, reraise...all in.

they have higher limits,  the casino I played in had, 1-2, 2-5, 5-10 no limit, you're right with max buy in, it's only $100

the first couple of days was pretty wild, 4-5 hour wait to get a game at the Hard Rock(bad beat jackpot over 350K),  alot of rich donkeys on the table

Why aren't they all the same blind scale if the max buy in on any game is $100??

At my casino they have 1/3 w/ $300 max buy in  2/5 w/ $500 max buy in and 5/10 w/ $1000 max buy in
