I play in my local poker room and it is a 1-2 game. The game has chip denominations of 1, 5, and 10. Last night i am playing and i am in middle position and i have pocket Aces. I throw in a 10 chip and someone calls me on a string. They say that since i have no ones in front of me and that i threw in one chip it is considered a call. I then argue that if u do not call then whatever u put in the middle is the bet. They say i can only call. I call floor and they agree. Now i got 8 players on the hand. Board comes a bunch of Q-something else and something else. I bet kid calls. next card comes and i bet again kid calls. Then next card comes and it is an ace.  I check because i believe the kid is hiding like a possible straight or something and kid check he had two pairs and i rivered trips.

So i was losing til the river. If i lost i would of been pissed.

Am i right and the floor wrong?

I agree,  I just got into the habit of verbally anouncing any move that I make, whether it be calling or raising

i was playing in one of the "Borgata Open Events"
    over 1k Tourney.
guy moved his chips in front of the cards saying he was counting them.
well guess what his turn didint get to him yeat but the dealer said his cards are all-in blind.
meaning No matter what Hes all IN! the guy was going nuts the floor came and said yes
indeed hes ALL IN.. well  he gets a call and he is very very upset.
QQ vs his K7.. guess what King on the flop and he 2x his stack. lucky prick didint last long
but the guy with QQ was pretty upset.

ALWAYS remember to announce your bet and never PLACE CHIPS in front of you CARDS!

no dennis, the guys are right

If it's a single chip, which just happens to be larger than the denomination of the bet to be called, it's just a call, not a raise

Safest way is to verbalize your intent

Dennis, the guys are right.  Always VERBALLY announce when you want to raise to avoid any confusion.  That way they can't accuse you of a string bet or a call.  You can NEVER assume that a single chip is necessarily a raise, since you may just want to call but need change.  Now if you shove in multiple chips with just 1 motion, it's obviously raised the amount you pushed in.  VERBAL always takes precedence over anything.  That way you can't have someone say CALL, then say fold.  Your 1st verbage is FINAL.

if your first to act and you throw any chip in that is the bet unless you announce the bet.

    1-2 all in home game.

    Always do this.

Announcing the amount of your raise is also a good idea.
