KGB, has nothing to gain by playing Matt Damon's character. All he has to do is wait till midnight and collect the money that Damon had with him. Why risk losing money for money that's already yours?

Damon owed him 15,000 before they starting playing, but KGB had taken 30,000 earlier, so he still would have been ahead. Damon was just looking for a game, not necessarily against Teddy. By the way Teddy was holding 10 10, so he hit top set on the flop.

that would be the best if KGB also had 8/9 and damon is all cocky and says, "I flopped the nut straight" and then reaches over for the money all proud of himself and then KGB says, "yea, so did I."
split pot.
fade to credits.

Colonel-
That's precisely it. He didn't have to do it. The only thing he stands to gain is the satisfaction of crushing him. KGB turned it into something personal and it cost him. One of the morals of the movie.
Not to mention a moral we all should pay attention to when at the poker table or sports wagering. The more you can take the emotion out of what you're doing, the better off and better decisions you will make.

i thought the moral of the story was " I told worm you cant lose what you dont put in the middle ,but you cant win much either"
that last scene is never gonna be shown at gamblers anonymous meetings
or the other moral " ...but finally i've learned this, if you're too careful your whole life can become a f*ckin grind"

i really don't understand why KGB's partner got all pissed at the end when Matt Damon won because that was actually Ed Norton's debt, that guy wasn't pissed at Damon, he only incurred the debt because he vouched for Norton so there was nothing personal there, why did he flip the table in disgust at the end?
