    Hey guys,

I run into this situation almost every time, as I'm sure all who play as much as I do also, so I'm reaching out for some advice.

Say you're looking at an all in bet from a relatively short stack.  This is for tourney play (whether it be live, online, big, small, or Sit 'N Go).  The blinds and antes are also at a point where stealing is bound to happen for survival.  Anyway, it's your turn to act and you're looking down at some marginal hand (Q6, J10, etc., etc).  Now you're pretty much getting odds to call, but you KNOW you're not liking the call.

What do you do?  Do you call, just because you're getting odds?  Does it matter on the stack you have?  I assume it does, but at what point is it mathematically too risky to call?

    Thanks,
    -S

Definitely depends on your stack whether you're getting the odds to call or not. Also you should consider what type of player is moving in, whether it be a nit or an active player. Another thing to consider is how many people are left to act behind you and their stack size.

I think it becomes too risky to call when you're risking a % of you stack where it will put you in a tough spot if you were to lose. I'm sure you already know this but if you opponent doesnt have a pocket pair you're only a 60/40 dog vs any hand he could have. So if you're getting 3 to 1 or more and your in a 60/40 race its a profitable play with any 2 in the long run because you will win at least once out of 3 times

    FOLD.

If you start calling off your chips with hands like that, you won't be winning many tournaments.  Moving in with hands like that is a different story, but calling off all your chips?  Never.

It really does depend on the situation.

If we're getting 1.5 to 1 or less on our call then we really need a decent hand or a really good reason to call. Villains stack needs to be small enough that if we lose, it won't hurt. With these odds I'd be looking to fold.

Two to one or better and I'd be looking to call. If villain is tight, his stack could hurt us, or other players are left to act then I might lean towards fold.

Three to one or better and we almost have to call. But, we shouldn't put our tournament on the line.

IF you are the small or big blind, and it costs you VERY LITTLE to call an all-in, yes.  But FOLD the hand almost every other time.  No use doubling someone up with your crappy hole cards.  That is how players make comebacks by winning a couple all-ins in a row.

2 to 1 odds or better on your money to call, but this all depends on who pushed all in. Is it a person who has seldom played hands, if so they are probably on something big. If its someone who has wanted to see the flop every time and is now all in because they have to be, I'd call it.

I love people who have to see the flop no matter what you raise they gotta see it. Even if you get burned every once in awhile you still come out ahead with those guys.

Personally I don't like doubling someone up with some really marginal hand like Q6 suited.  I'd rather fold and be the aggressor with a better hand.

J 10 is far better than a marginal hand and not comprable to Q 6...IMO

So if you're getting 3 to 1 or more and your in a 60/40 race its a profitable play with any 2 in the long run because you will win at least once out of 3 times

Agree with this...also depends on what position this all-in is coming from.  middle-late theres higher chance his hand isn't as good and he's likely going for blind steal with A x or something outside of a tier 1 or tier 2 hand.  if this all-in is coming from an early position I'd be more  careful but wouldn't necessarily rule out calling with good pot odds
