It happens in the casinos just as it does online. You'll only see it a quarter of the time in the casino since 4 times as many hands are being dealt online. Smaller limits online lead to a lot more all ins, thus the "suckouts' after the money's in the pot. I only respond due to the beat I took at the Tropicana in Atlantic City this past Saturday night. AA8 flop. I have pocket 8s. Another player moves all in and I obviously call. He's got AQ, turn and river come 8A. I lose a $400 pot with quad 8s to quad As. This would qualify for the bad beat jackpot at casinos that have such a thing. Of course in my case, the Trop does not. I checked what the BBJ was at the Showboat this weekend. 106K. I would have gotten 50% of that, the winner of the hand would have gotten 25% and the rest of the people at the table would have each gotten about 4K. Instead, i just lose 200. Pretty bummed to say the least...

First off, one reason you can win at the casino is not because the online cards are fixed, etc... it is because in the casinos at the lower limit and NL games the players are terrible. I am not saying you guys are, but say your talent level is a 3 out of ten... when you are playing with mostly 1 - 3's, in the long run, you are gonna win, because you are better, some of them don't even know what beats what. When you are playing with a bunch of 4-6's you are gonna lose. The key is to get better.. I am not going to promote anything but there are some great books, etc out there for all different types of play (limit, NL, tourneys, sit n goes, cash games etc) the key is finding the right ones. There are also some great websites out there with amazing forums, where players basically teach each other to get better. There is one website which basically taught me everything I know and it is 100% free.
By no means am I great... truthfully I am just one of those guys that takes advantage of the droolers at the table, but in the last 2.5 years playing about 10-15 hours a week, I am up like 75k. I have the legal software that keeps track of my hands and the stats while I am at the table, etc.
I don't post here very often, so I am not sure if you can go back and search past posts, but if you can, go back and look at my posts from about 2.5 years ago.. I was in the same spot, used to get so upset when my AK lost to AQ, etc.. but then I decided I wanted to learn how to play and I did. I got a poker book (which was totally the wrong book for what I wanted to learn) and it advertised their website. I went on there and the rest is history as that site basically taught me everything I know, It is like anything else the more you are willing to work at it and get better, and the better discplined you are, the more $$$ you will make.
If you are not willing to do those things, that is ok too, but then you have to think about it as entertainment and be ready to part with your money accordingly.. probably to someone like me.
Also if you are serious, before you sign up for sites, explore their bonus options and take advantage of those as well as getting rakeback, if it is possible... a decent portion of that 75k is from rb and bonuses.

    Good Luck!!!!!

    I know why I lose

    1. I am impatient
    2. I play much longer than I should, like I'll play for 3 horus when I'm healthy for 1

    John,
That is just my opinion... you are entitled to your own. Highest I have played live is NL1000 (2-5) at Caesar's and the play was worse than the average NL100 table on Full Tilt.
Now I remember why I stopped posting here...

Gennaro if you want to get better just search google last thing I want is a bunch of these idiots cluttering up the good poker boards.

I have been a successful fixed limit player online for 4 years.  The biggest diff. I see in people's results between live and online is the tilt factor. Anyone who says they never tilt is a liar.  I t is more costly on line because the hands just keep coming.  No deck changes, no dealer changes, no time to stop and relize u might just be steaming alittle(which really means that u are steaming alot).  These rare sessions can kill weeks of solid effort. Personally my onlive results are better because i pay more attention where as in a casino i am watching sports or waitresses and get distracted much easier, buy i have friends who are the exact opposite - good live players below % online.  Maybe drop down a limit or change sites to see if it matters.  gl

i play at pokerstars, my cousin transferred me 10 bucks a few months ago to get started, i've ran it up to 173 bucks since then, i play no limit .10 right now, started out playing nl .02,,,,,,,, before i move up to nl .25 i'll probably wait to see if i can build my roll up ai least few hundred more,,,,, i play almost everyday and some days for many hours so per hour profit is very small, probably not worth my time but i'm single with no family so i do it anyhow.
i take many bad beats and i still grind a profit so far, but it's like if not for some of these stupid beats i could make 50 bucks a day playing micro limits. tried a little bit of fixed limit but to boring to me and i took bad beats on the river way too often,,,, i suppose because if they flop small pair or have a draw they just wont fold and seems they hit on the river way to much, but i really have'nt played enough fixed limit to know for sure.

i started out a while back at fulltilt,,, ran 50 bucks to almost 1000 bucks in 4 or 5 months but then i started backing up, bad beats started coming all the time, next thing you know i have less than 600 bucks so i get pissed and cash out,,,,,,,,,, i was afraid they flipped the switch, and maybe these sites do flip the switch once you get to a certain amount but since i dont know for sure i've tried to figure out why it might have been my fault,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
here's what i probably did wrong,,,,,,,,,,, i was playing above my bankroll, was playin nl 1 dollar, should have been at the nl .25 level,,,,,,,,, probably best to have at least 20 buy in's for ring games and many more for tournaments,,,,,,, was logging too many hours, was getting mentaly wore down and did'nt realize it, started playing too many hands, when you win you get confident which then makes you start playing a little more carless than the way you was playing, you get over confident.
but the biggest mistake i think i make when i'm going bad is calling too many raises,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, players raise all the time, of course many times with stupid cards but many times with great cards,,,,,,,,,, if i start calling raises with AJ, KJ, KQ K 10, A 10, QJ offsuit and small pocket pairs it seems i never flop anything enough to make it worth it,,,,,,,,, when i have hole cards like these and someone raises i just pretend that the computer is trying to suck me in just to steal my money so i dont call,,,,,,,, when i'm patient it seems like the computer rewards me later on for having what it takes to be patient.
i save a lot of money also by not chasing nutt flushes,,,,, say i have A 6 of hearts and 2 hearts come on the flop,,,,,, many times someone will bet several blinds, it's hard not to call but when i do the flush just dont come very often and i'll end up losing several blinds,,,, when this situation happens i just pretend the computer is trying to suck me in,,,,,,, now if i get a free or cheap card then i'll play and if i hit the flush i'll hope somebody bets and get them this way, i hit more big flush pots this way rather than chasing and having to risk many blinds.,,,,,,,,,,, same with straight draws,, pot odds usually aint good enough if you have to call several blinds trying to chase it,,,, i just pretend the computer is begging me to call so it can steal my money, instead i wait until i can hit the straight for free or cheap and then hope to trap someone.

hope this helps someone play better ,,,,,,,,,, the bad beats will come from time to time so you must be patient,,,,,, going from 10 bucks to 173 bucks was'nt straight up, varience makes sure of that,,, if i can get to 200 bucks i may hit 150 bucks a few times first,,,,,,,,,, it's a grind just like sports betting.

I am a winning poker player in casinos. I have been playing NL holdem since 1995, LONG before the boom.  I do not play seriously but when in vegas I play a few times a week. I also play at hollywood park in LA. I play the 400 game  in LA blinds 5 & 10. Sometimes I play the bigger game, I avoid it because my girl plays in it and who wants to play their own girl. Also the 400 at hollywood is a major action game because of 5-10 blinds.
in vegas I play 2-5 up to 10-20 and have played as high as 25-50 NL
I also play sit n gos at golden nugget 1080 buy in when there, montel williams sets em up every other weekend.
2 weeks ago I won the only one I played in ( scott fischman also played)
That being said..I ALMOST NEVER WIN ONLINE. I have played poker stars and party poker . I would say I win 70-80 % of my live sessions and I Lose 90% of my net sessions. No I do not think it is fixed and  someone is trying to rob me of 215 dollars in a sit n go.. For whatever reason, we all know the list of possibilities, I am a real good live player and a real poor net player. So I never play on line anymore.  I have tweaked my game several times, no luck so I don't play.
    Good luck all
