I really don't understand people's fascination with playing tournaments when they go to Vegas. Don't get me wrong, if that's what you like, it's great and I'm not bashing, just trying to understand. I really think the cash games (primarily lower levels), either limit or NL are so completely beatable for a relatively competent player that it seems insane not to play them. I don't really care for tournaments and that's my preference. I guess what I'm trying to say, poorly is that it seems to me that a large majority of people I talk to always ask about tourneys when the go to Vegas and when I suggest cash games they look at me like I have four heads. Anyway, just wanted some thoughts from others, maybe this "phenomenon" is just a figment of my imagination.

I agree about the cash games especially the fixed limit games, people just put there money in without even thinking.
I think the whole tourney attraction comes from it being advertised on TV a lot, like WPT and WSOP. I never played a small tourney in Vegas because i never had the time but I would like to. I think it's a nice way to play NL without worrying too much about what's going on around you. You put $100 for a big payout and if you lose it's only $100.
Sit down at a 1/2 NL game and your $400 buyin could be gone on the first hand..
