alright a little tougher situation today.  it involves a flop play.

5/5 nl game.  you have 400 in front of you.  pretty tight player with about 500 makes it 30 from middle position one player calls you call on the button with 910 suited.

flop is 478 rainbow (no backdoor flush possible for you in case you are wondering), raiser bets 100 the caller folds and what do you do know?

it really depends, most of the time I'm folding.  Raising for info would be just committing too much of your stack.  But if I know the player weakens on the turn then I call and make a nice size bet on the turn when he checks to me.

If I know he always c-bets  and folds to a raise then I'll raise the flop.

ya thats the point he could have ak and be cbetting but thats less likely with 2 others in the hand, he probably does have a big hand here though is what i would be thinking.

depends if you wanna gamble , not quite getting the odds to call but many people will call this in a heartbeat, then again they are probably losing players. If you make your straight though you may get all of his chips if he has like KK, so you can look at the im plied odds aspect also.

godfather i think we can call if we have more behind us.  if 100 is called on the flop, then we only have 270 left and probably are gonna be put all in on the turn.  if we both had like 700 then maybe you say alright well see what comes out, being that we only got 400 total (370 after the 30 is called on the flop), i dont see how a call could be made when only 270 would be left for one card basically.  if we go all in for 370 then he must call 270 more, maybe he lays his hand down this way at least, and we would get to see both cards.  i still would prefer to just fold here, i could see calling a smaller bet but not 100.

    and i forgot to add...

like godfather said your not getting priced into a call here....

but i also agree that if your deeper stacked and you feel like you can outplay your opponent on the turn....thats the ONLY way i would ever consider a call here....but that would be very unlikly

The move is fold...if you are up against AK(and that's a best case type of scenario with a 30$ preflop raise) you are already up against two over cards so if ya both brick out, youre toast unless ya steal with the bets you make. Once more, I am assuming he has a PP as a worst case. No back door flush opportunity leaves you with 8 outs to secure the str8 (assuming he's not holding JQ in which case youre really toast)
The move is all in(reckless) or FOLD (prudent)..no call.

Of course, you have this hand I played on the weekend.

I raise on button with 1 guy in(limped) to 20$. get two callers. Flop comes 3s9s10s...so I have top pair with A kicker AND nut flush draw...check, check...guy bets 80$...so I re-raise to commit all his chips(maybe 180$ remaining) thinking he may have AK and is trying to buy the pot or has no spades...
To my surprise and delight, guy looks at me and says " I dont think you have it " , calls, and turns over JQ clubs!!!
I laugh out loud at the ridiclous call...and awaited the turn/river...
Of course, he turns the straight with only one of 6 cards that could help him(spades woulda made my flush) and get nothing on the river...
I picked up my chips and left the table...I knew I'd be better off leaving rather than trying to sit around and rethink how the poker gods can be cruel at times...I mean i see a ton of that online..but I expect more in live games.

But it does play to your scenario above as there are real live morons who commit with nothing more than an open ender.

I will point out that even though I took a sour beat that time, I will always welcome action where I have the best hand going in and also numerous outs to improve my hand, especially to a nut flush.
A lesson I've had to re-teach myself over and over is that bad beats are a part of the game. The inability to recover mentaly gets WAY more expensive.

Anyone want to share what they do upon taking a HUGE bad beat?(whether HUGE by $$ standards or HUGE by % standards like someone hitting a 2 outter to take a pot)

I typically will go for a walk for several minutes...gives me time to recognize it for what it is.

Anyone care to offer their method if any?

Very well said.    I always forget about stack sizes in these questions.
