I'm leaving Monday for Phoenix on business for a 2 day seminar. I checked the Internet and there are a couple of casinos in the area (about 1/2 hour drive from my hotel). I think they're probably Indian reservation joints and are called something like Fort McDowell, and maybe Apache Gold or something. They have poker rooms so I was going to try to play.
A friend of mine told me that when he was in the area, he was informed by the rental car company that it was dangerous to go to Indian casinos, that people will throw bricks at your car and they generally don't like ot welcome white people.
Anyone know if there's any truth to this? Has anyone been to casinos in the Phoenix area or Southwest in general and have anything to report?
thanks

I know in upstate new york close to the Canadian border that if you clean house good chance a road block gets you on the ride home. No help to you but it does happen, just a heads up.

A guy in Montreal told me, I guess its someone elses story but thats what I heard. Its one of those country road 2 lane highways so to stop a car is not that difficult. He was telling me that they really need a poker room in Montreal because of the bullshit happening on the Indian reserve casinos. Just a story I heard true or not why not pass it on.

Upstate NY? Canadian border? I used to live in the Falls, 5 minutes from the border. Fucking canadians, we'd always get into a brawl going over the border. (I don't hate canadians though)
I also used to live in Phoenix and the casinos out there are shitty but I never heard bad stories. All the games are on computers (at least they were 10 years ago) The only live game is poker but I never played there. I remember Gila river casino had a 99 cent buffet every night at midnight, we used to get hammered and head up there. We'd stuff ourselves then go blow are money on video black jack and video craps...Those were the day's
Sometimes those trips to Gila river led to a bigger trip to vegas, then we'd sober up on the death highway and we couldn't turn back.

Some are legit, some are sketchy. We were out there in Scottsdale a few years ago, and we drove by one on the way to Tempe that looked like no more than a big Army tent with a casino in it. I know that they do have some normal ones, but nothing like Foxwoods.
You may have to do a little local research when you land. Ask a local, to get the straight answer. I'm sure the hotel can steer you if you talk to a younger employee. Don't ask Aunt Edna working the front desk. She'll send you to whereever has the best Bingo games.

We went to the one in Scottsdale two years ago. Played some blackjack and did well. Far from the best of casinos, but it still was an enjoyable and profitable trip. No problems and was treated very well. GL.

Also, check out Cliff Side Casino about 1 hour north of Phoenix. This was a neat little casino we stopped at on the way up to Sedona. Dining at Storytellers was surprisingly excellent. Actually liked this place better than the casino in Scottsdale. GL.

He means upstate as in due north of NYC not upstate as in Western New York. The casino he is talking about is near the border where they do a ton of drug smuggling (coke going north and good pot going south). I'd say the roadblock id for drugs not for poker winnings but anything is possible.

A Quartermania slot machine at Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino in Arizona indicated Hermenia Rodriquez, 64, had won a $330,000 progressive jackpot. Tribal casino officials scratched the prize, claiming the slot had a defective computer chip. The screen on a nickel Power Pay slot at the Grand Ronde tribe's Spirit Mountain Casino in Oregon told Nhung T. Housekeeper, 42, that she had won a "mystery jackpot" of $2.9 million. Tribal casino officials refused to pay. The casino had never offered "mystery jackpots." The message was apparently generated by another defective computer
The ORIGINAL not the package kind
perfect example of an INDIAN CASINO screwing you
