folks buying in for the min

see it happen all the time in 1/2 NL which is the only game i play. baffles me when i see a guy drop 60, lose it,rinse and repeat 3-5 times then walk out an hour later all sad face. i dont get it. i always buy in for the max and reload if below 100 as i like to get paid when i hit.and have enough to deal with variance during cold card streaks. my guess is folks wanna limit their losses on single hands. any thoughts insights? im far from a great player but can earn a few dollars if i try real hard lol

Players that don't trust their skills tend to limit their losses by buying in for the min. Kind of their own stop-loss strategy. 

Money management. States risk and reward principles. But many older gamblers own this other in all lag table ship me the double ups all the 1\2 tables giving the money away a 60 five way pays 300 leave come back and do it again at another looser. Lag taable....

You want to see the sharks vs piranha 10-20 or. 25-50 where the lags meet whales. 1\2 entry room go play no buying tourneys cause it Ll gets cut throat at 1\\2

depending on the time of day and action on the table I won't always buy-in for the full amount (min-buy never) but sometimes I like to feel out the table with a 1/2 or 3/4 full BI

It's part of some player's strategy that they buy in for only $100, but play loose and aggressive on the draws.  Ive seen it play off both way, losing $100 after $100 until they leave.  I've also seen them chip up $100 to over $1000 in 20 minutes. 

The point is they could have potentially chipped up from 200 to 2k. Instead of 100 to 1k.

A 250$ three way is 750

a 100$ 5-way is 500.

The payoff should be a good payoff.

My point is that the short stack strategy is there so minimize their losses because they are waiting for a draw to a straight or flush to go against TPTK for their stack.  Can't play that way for full buy in unless you want to go broke really quick.  btw, I am not advocating this strategy at all.  I always buy in for full.
