dumb play or bad luck

I am in a 10 person SNG with 4 players left including myself and it pays top 3.

 

I am the big blind and pre flop another player and myself stay in each at 1500 or so chips remaining.

 

I sit with 9 8 off suit flop shows 7 6 5 off suit

 

I go all in and other guy calls and has a pair of 10's

 

turn & river he draws 10 & 7

 

did I make a bad play? Or just bad luck?

 

 

 You have best straight and no flush draw out there.  Not a bad play at all.  He hit runner-runner and got very lucky....would make that play every time...

Definitely not a bad play, you flop the nut straight and the other guy gets lucky.  I made that same play twice yesterday and lost both times to runner-runner on pokerstars.  It's unreal how many times I've seen that happen online but based on the odds I keep making that play.  I've won some but have definitely lost more than I have won in that situation.  In live play I have not seen that happen as often but sometimes it will, that's poker.  However, in the last month I have lost a number of these hands on pokerstars and I have decided to stop playing online for now because these bad beats are really frustrating me and now I have started expecting them to occur.  I'm going to concentrate on live games only for a while.

I wasn't the short stack so I thought maybe a bad play after it happened being only 1 player out from the money.

scools dont pay too much attention to my thread about laying down aces to finish in the money.  especially since you had the nuts AFTER the flop.  you did the right thing and its bullshit that you lost

I dont get it. Is this a serious question? Flop the nuts, push all in and the guy gets runners, ya it was bad play
