Best Poker Book for a complete newb to Poker

Can anyone give me some ideas.

I bet sports quite a bit and play a lot of Blackjack(learning to count) and have been totally enamored with Poker lately.

daniel negreanu book.   also pick up something on dealing with suicide while you're there.

The Dan Harrington books on poker.  Not sure that i remember the title ... maybe   "Harrington on poker"  ...?

Daniel's beginner's book is quite good.

If you want to learn hold em get Small Stakes Hold Em by Malmuth. Then try Harrington on Holdem for tournaments.

these are both good.  however i wouldnt get to attached to a book, best way to learn is playing over and over and paying attention to what other ppl are doing.  most ppl you are up against do not play like the ppl in the book.

You don't mention if your intention is to play online, live, in cash games or tourneys.

I agree with clowncar. I own both and they are great. Harrington is my next read for tourneys. I also have Gus's book on the experiences and thought processes behind his Aussie Millions victory. An excellent look inside the mind of an unconventional pro.

i've read most of only one book, i forgot the title but it has a 'card sharks' logo on it - this book helped me tremendously as a beginner.


I do read a lot of articles online, a lot of blogs from pro's etc. since the birth of my sign i haven't the time to read books considering i probably own most of them.

sorry i meant son lol, i watching replay of espy awards while typing.


Reading articles online is very helpful i suggest you do this when you haven't the time to read a book.

I have read alot of poker books/articles/blogs and they are good for learning strategy but as clown said, the best way to learn is to play and pay attention even when your are not in the hand.  Try to learn what others are doing and adjust your play accordingly.
