Yes that was the agreement Ukraine pays for military equipment. Through a mineral deal. However this benefits Ukraine. 

Ukraine is incapable of extracting minerals because you need infrastructure so first huge investment in a heavy rail system is needed. This rail can then be utilized for a great number of commodities such as grain, beef ,public transportation, energy ect ect. Then it needs to be refined another huge win for Ukraine because it will create foundry jobs and a way to sustain what ever town that is apart of. Next a ocean port needs to be restored to take commodity and with that every commodity Ukraine can offer. 

Then the entire infrastructure has to be secured , so an air defense iron done erected this will stop future Russian aggression. Finally a bar of rare earth can be delivered to market and by then trump will be out of office because this will take no less than 5 year estimate and Ukraine can renegotiate contract.....

And I don’t understand your point with us losing 1 6th of our population ? - Denmark is part of EU and so is most of Russias population - Europe has close to 700 million people and that would be what you would compare to US (if you wanted to do a us versus you comparison) if you wanted to compare Denmark with something over at you guys it would be a small suburb - but EU works more or less like US does Denmark do not - so again you can’t compare us at all (and you shouldn’t be interested in us doing a comparison as pr. capita Denmark own you in every metric apart from military) but US is the only country in the world that works in that insane way with federal and state laws etc. so you can’t compare it to anything else
