I agree - and I have come to like you since this thread - but I sincerely hope you arent doing this anymore:

"Alot of time I will put together a bullshit parlay with a late game in there just case I hit the early ones, I can hedge out and guarantee $"

Vanzack, I honestly can't remember the last time I bet a parlay, not even a 2 team parlay.  I prefer straight wagers.

    van,

can you show me the math on why parlays are less profitable than straight wagers, even tho i seem to have figured out that parlays aren't the way to go without math...

    here's my thoughts:
If you bet a straight bet, you're normally laying -110 and have a 50% chance of winning. Now with a 3-team parlay (even if they're all at -110) your 50% chance of winning each game results in a 50/2 = 25/2= 12.5% chance to win the parlay, but your odds are MUCH improved. So how does the 300% x .125 = 37.5 (what unit i don't know) compare to 100% x .5 = 50? Or does that just prove parlays aren't worth it?

    now i'm just about everything

WHAT U ALL DONT REALIZE IS THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO HEDGE TO EVEN.  YOU CAN USE HEDGING TO MAKE MORE PROFIT ON THE ODDS OF THE EXTRA GAME.

    EXAMPLE...2 TEAM PARLAY .....TEAM A (-200)
    TEAM B (-220)
    100= 118.18
    TEAM A STRAIGHT UP 100=50
    OPPOSITE TEAM B (+180)   56=100.80
    118-56=62
IN THIS SITUATION YOU BET A SOLID MONEYLINE BET AND EITHER WIN .80 OR AN EXTRA 12 BUCKS PER HUNDRED THIS SITUATION LOSES 49.20 PROFIT IF 2ND TEAM LOSES

65=117 WIN 53 OR 17 BUCKS .... THIS SITUATION LOSES 33 BUCKS PROFIT IF 2ND TEAM LOSES

45=81 LOSE 19 BUCKS OR WIN AN EXTRA 23 BUCKS THIS SITUATION LOSES 69 BUCKS PROFIT IF 2ND TEAM LOSES

SAY YOU EVEN WANT TO TAKE A BIG CHANCE ON THE DOG
118=212.40 YOU WIN 112.40 OR OR YOU BREAK EVEN...LOSE 118 BUCKS PROFIT

YOU CAN EVEN BREAK IT UP
    25=45
    25 MORE ON ANOTHER WITH (+180) (-200)= 80
WITH POSSIBLE HEDGE ON THAT BET

A COUPLE OF WEEKS LAST SEASON I PROFITED EVERY FEW HOURS FOR THE WHOLE WEEKEND

SO YOU CAN USE HEDGING TO MAKE MORE SOLID BETS AND ALSO HELP CUT LOSSES ON BIG RISK PLAYS

ILL PLAY 2 OR 3 TEAM MONEYLINES ALL DAY
THE WAY I CHOOSE TO HEDGE THE LAST GAME DEPENDS ON THE SITUATION
WHEN YOU APPLY TO 3 AND 4 TEAM  PARLAYS
    THE PROFITS CAN SKYROCKET QUICKLY

HEDGING ALLOWED ME TO WIN AN EXTRA 12% THAN I WOULD HAVE ONLY WINNING THE 1 TEAM MONEYLINE

SOMETIMES I TOOK CHANCES HEDGING EVEN LOWER ON THE LAST TEAM FOR A CLOSER TO 2 OR THREE TEAM PARLAY SOMETIMES I OVER BET THE HEDGE TO TAKE A CHANCE ON BIG +MONEYLINES......+300,400 ECT....IT GIVES YOU A LOT MORE CONTROL OVER YOUR BETS AND ALLOWS YOU TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF MORE OPPORTUNITIES

12 BUCKS PER 100 ILL TAKE IT EXTRA 1200 PER 10 LARGE WAGERED

THIS YEAR IT WILL BE EVEN BETTER....LAST YEAR WAS MY FIRST YEAR HEDGING

    EXAMPLE...2 TEAM PARLAY .....TEAM A (-200)
    TEAM B (-220)
    100= 118.18

YOU CAN EVEN BREAK IT UP
    25=45

Dude -  I read this at least 5 times and think I understand what you are saying - although it is very hard to read and understand.  First off, turn your caps off.

This is what I think you are doing:

Betting a 2 team parlay, betting the first team straight, then betting the opposite team of the second game straight.

I really dont want to waste much time on this - but if that is the case - you are a moron and your system is quite possibly the dumbest thing I have ever heard.  Essentially, you are doing what hedgers do - except you hedge before the games even start.

What is the point of betting both sides of the second game?

I will give you a chance to clarify your post and strategy if I misunderstood - but on the surface it sounds like you have concocted a sure recipe for giving away money.

Yep, you just confirmed it.  You are the dumbest person in this thread, and that is saying quite a bit.

After close to 400 posts, you are the first person who suggests hedging BEFORE any games even start.  This is the height of douchebaggery.

Congratulations, and may God have mercy on your soul.

C'mon people. You have to hedge when you get the chance. If nothing else just to get your initial bet back.  Think about it... if you have a sweet 4 teamer working for you and you bet $20 to win $240 why wouldn't invest $22 to hedge your bet to win $20?

what do you think of this one... my buddy suggested betting the run line and alternate runline for every baseball game for a week (provided they are both plus money). For example Angels -1.5 runs (+225) vs. Bos -1.5 runs (+145). The only way you'll lose is in the event of a one run game. I'm way too busy to reasearch the validity of this idea

Hedging is clearly the worst alternative unless something has fundamentally changed such as the line, injuries, weather, or your financial situation has created utility that you cant pass up.  But if you are saying to yourself before you bet the parlay that you are going to hedge the last game – JUST LEAVE THAT GAME OFF OF THE PARLAY IN THE FIRST PLACE.  And if you find yourself in the situation of last nights poster, where you have won the first games and are down to one game and are considering hedging, UNDERSTAND THAT HEDGING COMES AT A PRICE, YOU WILL PAY EXTRA IN ORDER TO HEDGE.

I think this is why it's hard for you to understand vanzack. And btw, thank you for these types of threads, i learned some things, and you've reiterated some things i already knew so that i may apply them to my sports wagering to give me a better shot at winning.

My theory on gamblers, by the numberss, not by the money.

    A.  Pro's, i'm sure that less than 5% of people that put down sports wagers are professionals. It's probably closer to 1%.

    B. Semi- structured amatuers. I'd guess they make up about 10% of gamblers. There's a handful of them on covers

    C. The rest, would be at least 85% of all potential sports wagerers. They don't particularly care about the math of it,  they just want to win. They will bet on anything and everything at any terrible price, just because they want to bet and they think they can win. They don't care to see that the odds are against them, and they can document their losses, and still think " this is my week", "i'm gonna make a run".  They are constantly chasing their tail, and you can show them the math and the hole they dig themselves, and they will steal your shovel to get started. For them, to offset some losses, and get a guaranteed win, is rare, so they put a higher price tag on ANY win. Their financial state is constantly changing, which is why you can tell them that they're stealing from themselves and they tell you that they don't care.

    Hedging

    Parlays

Casinos, lottery, there's plenty of people out there ready to make a bad bet. For them, it's 'just gambling', and they are happy to lose

I DONT HEDGE TWO TEAM PARLAYS....ONLY THREE AND UP JUST TRIED TO GIVE AN EXAMPLE FOR TWO TEAMER.

MOST TIMES I BET TWO TEAM TEASERS ... OR STRAIGHT BETS..... MONEYLINE PARLAYS ARE MY SPECIALTY.

I USE THESE PARLAYS TO HEDGE AND HAVE OPTIONS TO PLAY WITH.  IT IS MUCH EASIER TO WIN MONEYLINE BETS THAN AGAINST THE SPREAD FOR ME.  IF I HAVE 3 OUT OF 4 IN ON A MONEYLINE PARLAY I CAN USE THE HEDGING METHOD TO GUARANTEE PROFIT AND EVEN PARLAY A BIG PLUS MONEYLINES.....I WOULD NOT SUGGEST MY METHODS TO NOVICE GAMBLERS BUT JUST TRIED TO HELP YOU WIN SOME EXTRA MONEY.  MY BANKROLL SPEAKS FOR ITSELF.

GETTING A FEEL FOR THE MATH TAKES A LITTLE TIME.

BOTTOMLINE IS I MAKE MONEY BETTING FINALLY AFTER YEARS OF LOSSES

HEDGING HAS HELPED ME BE A WINNER INSTEAD OF A LOSER AND I WOULD RECOMMEND FOR ANY SERIOUS BETTOR.

HEDGING IS A USEFUL TOOL ALONG WITH STRAIGHT BETTING, AND TWO TEAM TEASERS TO GIVE YOURSELF BETTER CHANCES TO WIN MORE TICKETS.

IN MY OPINON IF YOURE NOT HEDGING YOUR NOT USING ALL THE TOOLS AVAILABLE TO YOU THEREFORE YOU MIGHT NOT WIN AS MUCH MONEY AS SOMEONE USING ALL THE TOOLS.
