please don’t start laying 5:1 at this point ... they might be “safer” but they can still lose and then you are losing 5 bets at once.  Think about it for a couple days and come back

 If alt lines are the way you want to go you might aswell bet ML dogs or SELL points.  Atleast then if you go 50/50 you are UP. Not buying 8-12 points that is a losing proposition

 The problem with that is that there is no way to win 50% of the time doing that. It’s impossible.

it’s really not and to play devils advocate what you are suggesting by laying 4:1 or 5:1 is worse in the long run.

imagine going 7-3 and being down money ...  
you can also lay a unit on the dog with the spread and play half a unit or a quarter on the ML to make it more juicy. You could probably go 4-6 and be in the money compared to going 7-3 on some rediculous juice and being down a significant amount

 You CAN get up using alternative lines. Once you do, and I've done it many times - either cash out or start betting smaller on the spread, or quit till next season with a profit. It can work shorter term if you are careful (do your homework). 

I did not say you can’t win ... I said long term it’s a losing proposition (which it is) the guy is literally suggesting to a guy that’s said he’s down 200k so buy 8-12 pts on a game because the odds go up(no ducking kidding) then what ... he loses a bet at. 4-5:1 stake and chases even worse ???

please reread what I said because I’m not saying you did.  You responded to my comment saying you CAN get up. Reread my statement. 

You CAN get up betting dogs. You CAN get up betting the spread. You CAN do a lot of things.  Will you?

here’s a better question for you ... would you rather bet -200-300 favs in baseball or hockey straight up or would you rather bet -110 that you did your research on.  Or +110 whatever the case may be 

 

I don’t really care how confident you can be betting the large juice. These bets still lose.  Then you need to win a lot more bets to even just break even.  It’s a losing proposition

 Lowest juice possible. Anybody whose been doing this long enough knows that. Pipedreaming needs to figure that out. If I see a situational spot where I feel I have a good chance of winning, I'll eat the juice once in a while. Works for me short term.

I might ... MIGHT go up to -150 on baseball or hockey depending on the spot but for me it’s RARE. Now buying 8-12 pts in a football game ? Cmon man

 It's too expensive, I know. But like many have said, you get a good spot, and do your homework, you can profit shorter term. 

I don't do it much. Special occasions. Works for me most of the time.

it’s a bad habbit just like the one he’s looking for help with ...short term yes maybe it can be done but personally I’d rather lose with 100 dollars on a +500 ML like Boston college on Saturday and cover the spread and still profit.. maybe not as much but profit. Before I’d lay -500 on something that can lose the same way and have to win 5 bets to make up for it. It’s simply just not worth it for me I’d rather find another spot 

that’s also my problem with it tho ... MOST the time isn’t good enough when you are laying these types of juice but I see where you are coming from. 

id rather go 5-5 or 4-6 and turn a profit then go 7-3 and lose a substantial amount of money. It’s like chasing before you are even chasing to me.

I like to make a small deposit of 1-300 USD and try and build that up … rather than going large every single game 

or I do open parlays on bet any sports and do open 10 teamers … I only play games I feel really good about and if I end up getting to 7-8 I cash out the 4-8k and use that to do more parlays , or just straight wagers , and keep some for personal use
