For anyone who doesn't think Peyton even belongs in the conversation read the Peter King article at the bottom. He is arguably having his best season ever. It is not always about stats, and as soon as some of you realize that, the better. Also, it is a complete 2 horse race between Peyton and Pennington. Others such as Turner, DeAngelo and a couple defensive players will get votes, but to win the award it is between those two guys.

both had similar leadership effects on their team but the colts have much more talent on their team than the fish

im biased towards AP,but where do you think the dolphins would be without Chad Pennington?  Probably contemplating the top 5 picks in the draft, everyone else being mentioned has way more help or could be filled in for.

Guys I think Chad should be the second choice for MVP, and hands down at that, but you are all forgetting how much improved their offensive line is this year. Jake Long has been amazing and the rest of the line is vastly improved. Also not to mention how much better their defense is. They have won 5 games this year by scoring under 17 points. Do I think Chad deserves the award way more then Warner, AP or any of the rest of them? Definitely.

Rangerz, sorry 'bout the Jets but thanks for the love for Pennington, he could have slung some mud in NY, but he's too classy for that, he won, he's a winner, he played great, again, outplayed his hall of fame counterpart, and is now a part of history. IMO he just locked up 2nd.  
 
For 3rd, I gotta' go deangelo williams, CAR. 20 td's on a first place team,  over 5.5 yds. per carry, he's the closest thing to Barry Sanders I've seen in a while. This guy has just been explosive and to me right now is the RB with the biggest play capability, check out how many runs over 30 yds. he has. And he shares a good bit of time with Stewart, an outstanding back in his own right (over 800 yards).
 
Brett Favre, please hand your ticket to HAWAII to Chad Pennington, and while we're at it, Jay Cutler, give yours to Phillip Rivers (4th in my vote for MVP).

The team has done well and he has SOME good numbers, but he is lacking in so many areas I dont see how you can give him even top 3 voting.

He has 1400 yds less than Brees, he only has 19 TDs and 7 INTs, and that is just 15 behind the leaders.

I just dont see how you can give an MVP award to someone that has such inferior numbers, when the team is ranked number 10 in passing and number 11 in rushing.

If we are going for a "feel good" story then it has to be Rivers. If we are going off a mix of "feel good" and stats, then it is Mr.Commercials. If you are going off stats and value to the team, then it is neither of the two mentioned.

Chad is even ranked below Eli for TD's thrown.

Yea where is Pennington in regards to Interceptions thrown and fumbles lost??? #1... you win by not turning the ball over... not necessarily by throwing td's... look at Brees... why isnt he a consideration.. most yards, td passes.. .and prolly most passing categories.. but they dont make playoffs... I would take a guy who doesnt turn the ball over anyday over somebody who throws for great numbers but cannot make playoffs!

Wallstreet I hope you are right, because if it isn't Chad, its Peyton. We all know your opinions, but when it comes to the predicting aspect of the award, you are lost. Forget Peyton I am not going to get into a pointless discussion with you about how Warner is possibly more deserving, but I can almost guarantee you that Pennington will get more votes then Rivers. (and obviously Warner for that matter)

He won't win it, but I would vote for Rivers. No LT for most of the year (I was the lucky guy in my draft to get him with a #1 pick this year), Gates has been sub-par (yup, had him too), but with the other receivers Rivers had a great season and got his team into the playoffs. I would love for Brees to win it, but the choice should be Rivers in my opinion. I'm not a fan of guys whose teams aren't in the playoffs getting the MVP.
 
It would be ironic if that's how it played out, since SD let Brees go in favour of Rivers.

Oh, and Rivers had 6 fewer INT's than Brees did. Same TD numbers and Rivers had the higher QB rating.

I knew I was afraid to click on this thread...why are people so in love with drew brees?? his team is a consistant LOSER....he has never WON ANYTHING.
 
Philip Rivers is a candidate because he got his horrible 8-8 team in the postseason??
 
if thats true then Matt Cassel should win in a landslide.

The Chargers didn't beat 1 team that made the playoffs.

Rivers was 0-5 against teams in the playoffs.

Sure you can knock on Peyton's schedule towards the end but against playoff teams Peyton was 5-1.

I mean you can play all these tough teams to make your schedule look harder but if you can't beat any of them does that really mean anything?

Gimme a break, Peyton hands down.

You hear that wallstreet? You ALWAYS say how Peyton didn't face enough playoff teams and yet you want to give it to a guy who didn't face one. Works for me.

That's the part of Wallstreet's argument I really just don't get, he calls Manning's schedule a "cake walk" but when comparing schedules he has faced the same or more playoff teams then Warner, Rivers, Brees and Pennington.  I know wallstreet never said Pennington or Brees should win, but I was just using other guys thrown out there in the MVP discussion.

Pennington against playoff teams: 1-2
Rivers against playoff teams: 0-5
Brees against playoff teams: 2-4
Warner against playoff teams: 1-4
Manning against playoff teams: 5-1

So they have all played similar amount of playoff teams and Manning has obviously dominated teams that have made the playoffs including winning heads up against Rivers.  I think when you want to call a team's schedule a cake walk, you should check the schedule of the players team that you are arguing for. 

Play as many tough teams as you want but a real MVP will do their best against the best competition which Manning has clearly demonstrated this year over any of the guys in contention with him.

Even if you want to add teams that were .500 or better you can compare the schedules

Manning against teams .500 or better: 8-2
Brees against teams .500 or better: 3-8
Warner against teams .500 or better: 2-7
Pennington against teams .500 or better: 4-5
Rivers against teams .500 or better: 4-7

So I guess your main argument could be that Rivers has played more teams over .500 but has been pretty bad against them.  Manning has double the wins in less chances and I think if you want to bring up tough schedules, the teams should at least be effective against these good teams for it to be used as a reason to snub someone or give someone the MVP award.
