I would take Philip Rivers before I'd select Peyton Manning this year.

AS Great as Turner was, he couldn't possibly win because of his QB, MATT RYAN.......you gotta respect the kid....which means:

that if Joey Harrington was the QB , then noone would respect that, and if noone respects the pass, TURNER would see 8men in the box 999 out of 1000 times, so 1700yds, IS out of the question.

I guess you don't respect Clark, Addai, Harrison, Wayne, or his offensive line. Thats not a good argument SS.

Its just a popularity contest. Personally, I think that Peyton is a good dude, but the way ESPN pumps him up.


So you are going to use ONE bad game out of the NINE game winning streak as the reason he shouldn't be mvp?

Unless a RB/DEFENSIVE PLAYER has a season that is far better than every QB in the league, then YES, only a QB should win. It's no secret that the QB position is the no.1 position...and im not the only one that feels this way...

SINCE 1987...

16qb's have won or shared the award

7rb's have won or shared the award

and in 1986 a decent linebacker won the award in LAWRENCE TAYLOR....

QB's lead the team , so in most cases, they ARE the most valuable.

I wrote that he didn't have a good season compared to average NFL standards before I looked at all the stats, so yes I was mistaken on that one.  I just feel that there were better players this year.  DeAngelo Williams and Drew Brees are the main ones.

As far as Kerry Collins, I just mentioned him because he led his team to the best record, and that is deserving of some votes.  No way in hell should he win the award however. 

Same thing with Peyton Manning, he deserves some votes, but IMO he doesn't deserve the award.  Philip Rivers, Drew Brees, and Kurt Warner all either put up similar or better numbers than he did. 

MVP is for the best player of the year, and those players were Drew Brees and DeAngelo Williams.  Not Pennington or Manning.  Unfortunately that's not how most of the voters view it.

Funny you should say that, because this year, you really CAN'T respect half those players.

Addai has been next to worthless this year with his knee injury, and the Colts consequently had one of the worst 3 rushing games IN THE LEAGUE. That, my friend, is the definition, of not having to respect the run.

This, coupled with the injuries his receivers were riddled with (particularly Harrison), AND Jeff Saturday being in and out of the lineup constantly, (as well as several other guys on that O-line), and you literally have Peyton carrying the colts to 12-4 ON HIS OWN.

CM so pretty much your definition of the 'Most Valuable Player' would be the guy who had the best statistical season. That is the only possible way Drew Brees can be in the conversation. Sure he almost broke the passing record, but in key road games where his team needed it, he threw pick after pick. Most valuable to me is the guy who did the most to help his team win. Peyton did that.

Um, no, MVP is for the most VALUABLE player, if it was for the best player then sure give it to Brees with his numbers, but how valuable was he really on a 8-8 team that misses the playoffs? Peyton's numbers were comprable to almost every other top QB this year, and he did it with less talent, while leading his team to a better overall record and beating some very talented teams on the road. I really don't see how this is even a discussion anymore.

Brees is far from the best player in the league, actually it's kind of laughable.

I looked at some situational stats and I took from it the Colts success relies more on Peyton then any other QB's success with his team.

Manning
In Wins: 106.7 QB Rating, 23 td's, 6 intos
In Losses: 66.4 QB Rating, 4 td's, 6 intos

Peyton did it with less talent flawless?  Are you kidding me?  Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison and Dallas Clark for Peyton.  Brees had Lance Moore, Devery Henderson, Robert Meachem.  Colston missed the whole first half of the season, as did Shockey.  Even if you had them the whole year, Peyton has the most talented receivers outside of Arizona.

Buddy you keep thinking this is the same set of receivers he had 2 years ago when they were the best offense in football. Harrison has SEVERELY declined and Wayne and Clark played hurt all season.

Also CM, there is a different award for the player with the best statistical season, which seems to be your arguments against Peyton. It is offensive player of the year, and it should be Brees 100% no doubt. But MVP there is no way.

I agree that Harrison has declined, and Wayne and Clark didn't put up their insane stats, but you're telling me that right now you would rather have the Saints top guys over the Colts top guys?  Brees threw for 5000 yards with basically 3rd receivers.  Lance Moore probably doesn't even start on most teams this year. 

I said that Peyton still had the same amount of TALENT at his disposal.  Even with Wayne and Clark playing hurt, they were in the game all year and he had his starting back for most of the year as well. 

That is why I feel as though Brees deserves it more because he just about set the passing yards record and kept his team in a lot of games with crummy receivers and barely a running back.  If he had Bush and Deuce healthy, and was throwing to Shockey, Colston, Moore, and Henderson all year, then fine I would give Manning the nod.

I am saying that if you put Peyton on the Saints with that offensive line (probably the biggest key) and in that system, the Saints win 10 games easily if not more. The key is in games where Brees needed to make a play on the road, he did not while Peyton thrived.  (Saints losses at TB and Chicago where Brees played AWFUL, while Peyton went into Pitt and SD and was able to pull out wins) Not to mention Peyton single handedly brought his team back from two HUGE fourth quarter deficits( at Houston and Minnesota) In key spots where their respective teams needed it, Brees played horribly while Peyton delivered. That is the difference in what makes an MVP.

Yea I saw that too. Pretty big margin of victory. Lets hope the real award has a similar outcome.

Without question in my mind the NFL MVP is DeAngelo Williams, they guy had over 1600 total yards with 20 TD's and without him this Panthers team isn't where they are today, Stewart is solid, but without DeAngelo, Stewart would struggle as well, not to mention how much this guy helped Jake Delhomme, who is merely an average NFL QB. So, my vote goes to D-Will, and he won me my fantasy championship as well!

I didn't take time to read this whole thread because it's huge, but I read that someone said DeAngelo couldn't get it over A-Pete...my question is, WHY THE HELL NOT? Peterson had about 200 more total yards but DeAngelo had 10 MORE TOUCHDOWNS! Yes I know without A-Pete Minnesota is terrible, but without D-Will the Panthers were lucky to win 9 games this season

  you can say the same  exact thing about Peyton Manning, Michael Turner, AP, Drew Brees, Tony Romo, Ed Reed, Matt Cassell, need i go on?? Only difference between say Peyton Manning who i think deserves it, is their backup Sorgi who hasnt done a single thing on the pro-level. Jonathan Stewart even though rookie is still a pretty good backup....not only that but QB is the most important position in the NFL.

Peyton Manning did not bring his team back against Houston.  Dipshit QB for the Texans fumbled it away.  Minnesota couldn't capitalize and Manning did just enough to win.  You take away those last four games that we have already established were against the crap teams of the NFL (I understand that he still had to go out and win them, but EVERYONE put up big #'s against Detroit, Cincy, etc.) and he had 19 TD's and 12 INT's.  He had a strong finish against crappy teams, and that's why everyone is kissing his ass.  He had a nice season overall, right up there statistically with the other QB's, but it just wasn't an MVP season.  I want to look at the MVP and say "WOW, he had a great great season"....either statistically or record wise.  The Colts didn't have the best record, and Peyton didn't have the best stats.

Absolutely.....what did he do in the first Texans game? Sage's gift to the NFL. And remember, he stunk up his new home against the Bears in the opener too.

According to ESPN, unless someone has an EXCEPTIONAL season.......ahhhhhhhhh, give it to Peyton.

I still say that the award is BOGUS!!!
