I just got ravens -3 -116 at bookmaker
Nice!
A little PSA for anyone wanting to debate Van about the math or logistics of betting.
Dont. You either agree with him, or you're wrong. There is no option C.
I think some are confused though. Van is talking about playing the betting market whens hes referring to Balt -3.5 -108....hes been waiting for the market to do what he predicted would happen. The -108 doesnt mean much vs -110 short term (this game)....but when you are investing large sums over years & decades that stuff compounds.
Hes not debating Jackson vs Carr or HFA or the weather....all that is irrelevant (unless of course thats correlated to his postion in the market when lines are released and he knows/thinks a line will rise or fall)....
Van is on another level. Most people arent into or cant play the arbitrage game.....and thats fine. It takes years of effort, time, tweeking and losing to get to a point where things click.
So heres some advice. Read and learn. Ask questions. Van is more than happy to talk shop. Theres a reason hes been on here 20+ years....most people in the "real world" still view gambling as immoral or a bad habit....and cant even comprehend how the point spread works....So this is a place to talk about what he enjoys (in theory).....
GL Van. Laid off this game, but leaning the under. Too tough with Baltimores injuries and the Raiders being the Raiders.....

Wow. Thanks Train. Very kind coming from someone of your stature here.

Brilliant.
Brilliant.
Very interesting I did this on a few win totals and division futures where the lines varied and moved and I was able to get + money on both sides insuring a profit regardless of outcome. Did not think it was possible on weekly lines.

Hey bud...LOL thanks for memory lane!!! It was a time (before the internet and cell phones lmao). When you had two books it was cool to try to bury one occasionally, if you could. But with only one bookie (my reality) you never wanted to do what everybody wants to do now - CRUSH the bookie! Back in the day we loved it if we had a "regular annuity" goin' on, with the occasional bad week lol. But burying the bookie was never our thing either because we might not be able to get another local. Those guys had a network and knew everybody. You could be out of luck if you got too big for your pants. And the guy was a good guy and we could hang in his shop and have coffee, etc. Occasionally he'd get pinched, and we'd be SOL for maybe a week at most...fun times.
Cheers guys

Thanks all, great discussion and some very nice things said.
As far as the game goes.... It was a game that I would call one to avoid. A game that a couple of plays here and there decided the outcome of the wager. I always try to find games to bet that I think will be outside of a "standard deviation" or for ease of discussion - more than one score away from the spread. Even if I win a game like this - I mark it up to good fortune.
On to next week. Happy to discuss any and all things gambling related at any time. Much more enjoyable for me than picks - but I do understand that picks are what give covers life.
