They have to fly out either that night for the next morning. For the sake of just leaving the stadium they want to end it. Between more injuries and simply time, it’s best to get the victory on the fast track.

With the Mahomes play it was even simpler-take knees and not even have to kick a chip shot FG (which still has a small risk of being blocked)...

It was still a kneel down and Rivers fumbled it. Nothing in sports is guaranteed. The correct, but not popular play is what Maholmes did which was take the slide. I happened to be on the right side this time which made up for the bad beat(s) in ND vs OSU last week and Duke vs ND this week.
Absolutely the right decision. Kc backers caught a bad beat no doubt. But any time a team can kneel down 3 times and run the clock to zero it’s always the right call. Fumbling the snap on a kneel down would never even cross the minds of the coaches or players. On the other hand KC knows that it is possible for the other team to score twice in a minute and a half because they can do it.

Your analogy doesn't work; one is an official with the ability to change the course of a game via certain calls, multiple times in a single game. A conspiracy is a planned out set of events, hammered out in advance, i.e. Donaghy had inside info, sources to rely that info and a means to profit from it.
Mahomes' team was winning, likely the final offensive play of the game. He wanted to throw for a TD, didn't have it. What are elite QB's known for? Coming up with a Plan B. Mahomes wasn't chased out of the pocket, he had room to run. He saw the marker, and slid feet first. Tell me that's not brilliant. Game over, doesn't have to subject his D or special teams to any more work.
