My Two Cents on Mahomes Slide

OK, its actually pretty simple.

Nobody in the history of the NFL has fumbled away a snap on a kneel down.  EVER.

Literally last season, Nick Chubb for the Browns scored a TD right after the two minute warning to go up 30-17.  The JETS came back and won the game 31-30.  LAST SEASON.

That should be all you need to know.  Of course sliding was the right decision.

Respect everyone's opinion but it's not a mystery imo; Mahomes wants to win Super Bowls and doesn't care whether he beats the Jets by 3 or 10. He knew by sliding he'd avoid taking a hit and the game would be over. It was the smart play from his perspective.

For the record, I do believe games like last night are 'shaded' to the desired outcome but 100% I think Mahomes did the correct and logical thing. I dont think for a second Mahomes gave a shit about the spread nor did he want to screw KC bettors. He just need he could finish with the ball in his hand and within his control. Taking a kneel down snap would be completely on him - where as kick coverage would leave a tiny element of chance to the special teams players and defense.

The jets had 30 seconds left with no timeouts remaining.  I would love to hear to what was said on the radio inside Mahomes helmet right before or during the play to get down and not score.  I'll bet you a steak dinner there is audio somewhere that would shed light on the subject being discussed.  Someday it will surface just like the Tim Donaghy scandal.  That which is made secret eventually comes to light.  On to the next.
